Re: Question 4: What international games? We are definitely the smallest of the markets by a very wide margin. We need to get as many people there as possible, it might have some sway on the bid commitee.
Re: Question 4: What international games? One of the other tweets said that it was not expansion. Montreal would be tomorrow.
Re: Question 4: What international games? I desperately want to see Tottenham Hotspur. I have been a Spurs supporter for 15+ years and would love to see them in Kansas City (or at least close enough that I could drive to see them).
Re: Question 4: What international games? Based off the other locations, definitely a good chance for a decent crowd. Pull from Chicago, Colorado, etc...
Re: Question 4: What international games? I don't know if it'll be the entire tour, it certainly could be, but my initial thought was at least the ASG.
Re: Question 4: What international games? The tour schedule is already up online. That's where I got it from. So I'm sure they'll announce the entire thing.
Re: Question 4: What international games? Isn't that the day after the Chicago game? Back to back eh?
Re: Question 4: What international games? The assumption is the Chicago game will be moved. I personally hope so, it'd be stupid to play an away game one day and a home game the next.
Re: Question 4: What international games? The coolest thing about that image is seeing Valencia next to those two legends. If he's coming, I'm there.
Re: Question 4: What international games? Well I would point you to the Nielson ratings for a typical Man Utd match vs those for a USA match, but I don't know where such information is found. I'm confident though that USA blows any European game out of the water. There's an order of magnitude more interest due to the patriotic element it brings to the discussion. That and, while I have never considered myself terribly patriotic, at least not in the Superman, Reagan, World Police sense, International football, or most other sports for that matter, is just damned compelling. It's hard not to self identify with the country of your birth in that context. So yeah, I think the right USA qualifier might well draw better than Man Utd. There sure as hell would be a larger television audience. On to a critique: I think we really need to be careful about the implications of this game and not go into it naively. United's reserves are quite capable of drilling our starters 6 or 7 to nil. Anyone witnessing that would have it knocking around in their cortex any time they considered ways to spend their entertainment dollar. I'm saying the last thing we need to do is to remind the public that MLS is not, by world standards, an elite league. Anything appearing to be "minor" league doesn't sell very well in this country, at least in mid-major markets it doesn't. Apologies to a couple of our owners who do own minor league franchises, but that is a fact of American life. I cringe a bit to say this but imo we should really brainstorm ways to suppress the score without getting anyone hurt on either side. Perhaps play 30 min halves? That's all I got at the moment. It's a great fundraiser, no question, but there does appear to be some risk for us in a match like that.
Re: Question 4: What international games? Abra ... if United follow form, considering this is pre-season ... they are unlikely to hammer us. They probably will be more on par with Everton in their pre-season stints over here. They will meander around the pitch without to much effort and probably make us look a bit better than we actually are while trying to avoid injuries. The Premier League is still a month after this fixture and I think they will take it easy.
Re: Question 4: What international games? I was all ready to say what NBH ended up saying before me about how MUFC doesn't really do those sorts of things in the preseason and are more concerned with putting on a show and not getting injured then I saw that they beat some poor Chinese team this preseason 8-2 yikes! I think you are more than likely to be right and they will want to win but also put on a show without anyone being hurt -
Re: Question 4: What international games? +1 Keep in mind Kenny Cooper was once a Manchester United reserve. This is a game Ryan Smith might have played in in his days at Arsenal. Lets not get to bend out of shape and enjoy this rare event. I would think that losing to DC United on national TV (well we lose to everyone on national TV) reflects worse on the Wiz than any result could against Man Utd.
Re: Question 4: What international games? News official: http://www.kcwizards.com/news/2010/05/kansas-city-host-manchester-united Thread title changed...
Re: KC Wizards v Man. Utd. Sunday, July 25th at 5 p.m Ticket info. Special game B and C for most of us. http://www.kcwizards.com/ManU
Re: Question 4: What international games? Ryan Smith did play United ....... for Southampton. FA Cup ....
Re: KC Wizards v Man. Utd. Sunday, July 25th at 5 p.m I can live with that. Some will bitch. I don't have to fork any money over. Liverpool scarf at the ready
Re: KC Wizards v Man. Utd. Sunday, July 25th at 5 p.m No doubt, but seriously -- this isn't CAB, and it isn't FC Dallas -- if they are gonna bitch about it they are gonna look pretty ********ing lame.
Re: Question 4: What international games? I'm not saying that Man U. is more or less popular than the USMNT. I just think this particular game can draw 50K. I think the two games mentioned earlier in this thread could have drawn that many too. When you take into consideration that this game can draw people from OKC, Wichita, Omaha, Des Moines, St. Louis, and even Chicago, that is very doable. It is all going to be about how they approach the marketing of this match and how soon they get it going. Prices will be another factor. Something else that will bring in people is that this is following the World Cup which creates an overall interest in soccer temporarily with a lot of people that normally are not interested. EPL teams have played several MLS teams and I never remember anyone getting killed.
Re: Question 4: What international games? oh, I mean, like he would have suited up for Arsenal in a pre-season friendly stateside if they had one... just trying to point out that its not like the Wizards Juniors playing a mid season Manchester team
Re: KC Wizards v Man. Utd. Sunday, July 25th at 5 p.m Totally agree. Where's the thread for the anti-Man U songs we can sing!?
Re: KC Wizards v Man. Utd. Sunday, July 25th at 5 p.m So the question I have is: Which end of the stadium will the Cauldron be occupying?
