Are we sure this is the matchup? I was wondering if they'd play one of the other Euro teams that was over here - I haven't read all the tweets etc though.

It's not been officially announced no, but I have a good feeling that's what it will be.

Re: Question 4: What international games?

A ton of money should be the goal. I am hoping they will do something similar to the Club America v. Chivas match last year for STHs. But, i would pay good money to attend this match if it werent.

I am waiting for WC to come into the thread and talk about how this is some sinister plan on OnGoal to con us out of our money.'

What is the record for a soccer match in KC? Wasnt it the game versus Costa Rica at Arrowhead? 36K?

Another goal should be to shatter that record.

The U.S. Men's National team drew 37,319 in a World Cup Qualifier against Costa Rica on April 25, 2001. The second highest attendance came November 7, 1999 as the U.S. Women's National team defeated Finland 6-0 in front of 36,405.

I have to agree, and I'm trying to find some history of similar games at bigger stadiums (like DC-Real Madrid at FedEx) but I can't find attendance and don't have a lot of time to research.

Even with the biggest, most famous club side in the world?! ... Mike I know its a while back that they played Bayern Munich at Solider Field -- wasn't that a sellout?

    *suitably crushed*

We should sub the Wizard's out for Santos ...

I think we could get 50K if the game is marketed well enough. But, they need to get the details hashed out and start advertising immediately.

I can see that, just not 80K or whatever Arrowhead holds.

It was, but Soldier Field holds 61K, Arrowhead holds over 15,000 more than that.

Re: Question 4: What international games?

I think 50K presses the frontiers of reality. I think a Men's USA game would actually draw better than Man Utd, but even that I can't see reaching 60K, unless it were an actual World Cup match. The only sellout scenarios I can imagine for soccer at Arrowhead are World Cup matches featuring USA or Mexico.

Re: Question 4: What international games?

I am not so sure of that. Manchester United is the most popular sports team in the world. Everyone has heard of Man U.

It is all about marketing and the scope of it. If they push their marketing efforts to be regional and not just the Greater Kansas City area, I dont see 50K being an unreasonable number at all.

Re: Question 4: What international games?

    It all depends (of course).

The sooner they can announce and start promoting the worlds most popular team playing here the better. The Chivas-Club America game was hurt by a short lead time between announcing the game and playing it. I think it was around two weeks. It was also hurt by starting at 8PM on a week night.

Is also depends on how many other games and the locations they play while in the US. The more games ManU plays, the less likely it will be a sellout. The closer they play those other games to KC, the less likely it will be a sellout here.

What they charge will be a big factor also. A hundred bucks for third level seats and it will not be a sellout.

    Too many unknowns to predict.

Re: Question 4: What international games?

Chicharito will bring out the Mexican fans, Rooney (if he comes) and the rest will bring out the Eurosnobs, and I think you'll have a lot of casual fans that know about Man U. I agree on maximizing the lead time for group sales etc.

they should have two presales: one for season ticket holders to buy extra tix before anyone else can, and another where you can buy tix early if you purchase tix to a wizards game as well.

during the game, they should announce that people with ticket stubs to this game can get like $5 off a wizards ticket (or something like that) later in the year.

    Tour goes to:

    Toronto (v Celtic)
    Philly (v Union)
    KC (v Wizards)
    Houston (v AllStars)

There will be a good crowd at Camarohead for this.
