watching right now...is it normal for their to be a Christian prayer before city government procedings? Seems like conflict of state and religion. Just wondering, I've never seen that but then again I rarely watch City procedings out here in California.
Here we go the moment is almost here, so far everyone in huge support. The council building is so packed in support the fire marshal got involved at the beginning.
all speeches are very self congratulatory so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this will be unanimous. young/cute council woman talking right now.
I've followed the last few SSS efforts moving through government and I have never ever seen anything in such support as this. This is like on big love fest as opposed to the rest (RSL I'm looking at you). Funkhouser is concerned but in support
Funkhouser has made a couple of political missteps lately, and knows his veto would be overridden in 15 minutes. He has to appear "concerned" to keep up appearances.
Agreed, seems it was all to keep up his image to his support base. I found it positive that while talking about his support he repeatedly mentioned getting it done fast.
so is it 100% definite at this point or is there still a chance that this things collapses? if it's definite...congrats!
I offer my Congratulations. I love it. Props for all the hard work. Are there any more hurdles? Don't mean to disrupt the bubbly, just not that informed on the process.
I'm with others, what does this mean? Can they go build the thing tomorrow if they wanted to? Its just so hard to understand these things as every team's situation is different.
I know what you mean. My understanding was that this finishes the "local part" of the deal, but there is still be some "state part" (there were some references to negotiations in Jefferson City). The vibe I had been getting was that the local part was the bigger challenge. Is that right?
I am in no way for sure about this however it is my understanding that the State needs to vote on some minor funding and it is a go- from what has been said publicly is that the State won't be an issue and this was the greatest hurdle left. This is what a great plan can do - And it should be noted that unlike so many other SSS built recently this stadium won't be in the middle of nowhere. It is in Kansas City.
Great News, I got some flack for a poor post on KC attendance this year and deservedly so. I thought the KC fans raised their bar this year and hopefully having a new facility will really set things in motion. Congrats and why is April still so far...
What the state has to approve is about 30.8 Million. But the superTIF was needed on the project so that the state could give that money. Everything we hve heard is that it's a sure thing. The whole project is about $950 Million of which only $273 Million is being asked for from the city/state. And the Wizards are paying for half of the approx $140 Million stadium. Basically about 11% of the money will come from the state. But it's only about 3% overall of the project. Oh yeah, the money is already earmarked in Jeff. City for KC TIF projects... or at least a certain amount of money is... that was done several months ago. Basically the state is ready to give KC the money.
To all those who have contributed their thoughts on our stadium situation by telling us that we need to move our team, kiss our collective a$$es.
Thanks for the clarification. Sometimes the state funds are basically a layup (my memory is fuzzy, but I seem to recall a state piece for Frisco, and I seem to remember it being the easiest one to get), and sometimes they're the main challenge (like in Chester, where the local monies came pretty quick and they're still cogitating on the state funds).
Totally missed the new thread. We can continue the discussion here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=633559
