Since it seems like Tony is coming to Metro I was wondering what you thought of his play in the last couple of years. Has his formed dropped off? I know he was great for you guys for awhile. He helped you win the cup in 2000. I know he can be a pain as a teammate but does he seem like he still plays at a high level? I havent seen him play in awhile. Your input is appreciated. Thanks.
Well with age he has gotten alot slower and had become near post Tony. He probably has maybe one more year left in him. My question is why the hell would you pay him what he is demanding. I guess he never got the memo that when you get older your not going to get the same salary as you did in your prime. That is the main reason why is not still here in KC.
I think he can still do the job and at least help out Wells. He would be a good signing depending on the price. He claimed he was willing to take a pay cut to stay with KC, but he said some dubious things after it was apparent he wasn't going to be re-signed so who knows what his deal is. I think the Wizards felt that having both him and Oshoniyi was not worth the cost since we were hoping to re-sign guys like Burciaga, Arnaud, and Gutierrez as well as Zavagnin and Garcia if they didn't find Euro clubs. Plus, his injury scared the Wizards off as well.
In my opinion Bo is, by far, a much better goalie than Tony. I think Bo works better with the other guys and I think Bo made and still makes amazing saves and dives that Tony could never make. Yes, he helped us tremendously in the earlier years but thats over now. He had his days and now its Bo's turn.
not totally related to this thread, but it pretains to Meola, http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/12000683.htm scroll down below all the Donovan stuff and it talks about Meola. It says how we'll likely just put him out on waivers, meaning we'd get nothing from the Metros for him.
Talked about being treated badly by wizards. Talked about how he has basically singed a contract with MetroStars Pimped his business. Most of it was negative to the Wizards ala most of Tony's interviews lately. They asked if he's circled Sept 10th for when MetroStars come back to KC. He's ready to come and show he can play.
Oh, how I'd love to see us put up goals galore to quiet the raging attitude of Tony Meola. If he wants to complain about being treated badly by the Wizards, I say we make it happen.
Whie I understand and appreciate the July 1 deadline, the timing is bad. Tony is a recognizable public figure - one that would be helpful in promoting the Wizards' continued presence in Kansas City. I for one will be sorry to see him go.
Ditto my sentiments, with Tony gone and no Preki field time this team has no public icon for the general fan or media. Klein only counts if the collection plate comes your way frequently.
