    Nice pickup, Jimmie.

Good move for Danny, hope he can get some playing time.

"With the size of our squad, it will stand him in good stead to be in our squad and hopefully he will learn from it and take his career on.

"He will be training and playing with the first team and our players and that will hopefully help him and give him more experience."

It sounds like he's going to be given every opportunity to play with the first tem. Good move for Karby.

What were the other offers he spurned?

Great stuff! Would be lovely to see Whitbread and Simek also get deals in the Championship (has Simek signed anywhere yet?), and that would give us 4 young defenders in the Championship fighting to get onto the National Team...

If Spector too can get regular Premiership starting time, the US Nat team would be in its best development position in a long time. Lots of talented young US defenders playing at high levels.

Good news for Karby. I hope it's a sign that they've given him the #3 jersey.

Does anyone have any insight on Burnley's other defenders and what Karby's chances are of cracking the starting XI?

    Thx.

--That shirt's 8 feet across. Is that the only way they could fit his name on the back?

No kidding I had a laugh myself. He'll have to pull a Brazilan and go with "Karby". This is however, a great move for him and a real chance to showcase his skills. The manager sounds excied as well and that's always a plus. I look forwward to seeing his game take off. Now we need to see Simek land somewhere and for Whitbread and Spector to get EPL loans.

Their starting left back, Camara, signed with Celtic earlier this month.

to paraphrase a quote on a Burnley board "hopefully he can solve our long-term left back problems"

so it sounds like this is a good move

From a brief glance- looks like a good news/bad news situation:

On their website- they list 4 defenders: however 3 are at age 32+. The other is 27.

I guess the good news is...those guys are older, maybe more prone to injure and/or loss of form, fading career.

Bad news is they all have a lot of experience, etc.

However, longer-term- it certainly looks like a good situation for him.

Finally, and a good thing for Danny, the coach recognized Danny's versatility in his opening comments...that he can play either back, either side in midfield or even striker. So its good that he's seen this way, and this may get him on the pitch quicker.

Given the website only listed 4 defenders, I gotta think that some of the new 5 signings are also defenders (and will compete with Danny) or there are more to come. Hard to imagine a Coca-Cola going into season with only 5 defenders on the books.

Hopefully they would be able to work their way up to solid and starting roles on Premiership teams, of course. But I agree that it would be better for thm to just get regular playing time in a competitive division like the Championship.

This seems to be a good move and he should get some good time in during the season.

Maybe if he's better than them, he'll play.

I wouldn't think very many. If there were a bunch of suitors last year, I doubt Arsenal would've let him go for free. He had a year left on his contract, right?

    Probably true.

Still, no real place for him to go at Arsenal. He was behind Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy at left back. And at striker (his position as a youth player)... well, it wasn't going to happen there either.

Someone posted this link over on the Arsenal board. It's Karby's web site.

Nothing there about the other teams, though.

He'll play. Burnley sold a number of players in the transfer window and are really down to a bare-bones squad. Even if they sign some more players, they'll still be operating on very limited resources.

At this moment, it's the top headline under "The Championship" on the BBC Football page.

Yeah, kinda funny, one Yank made the top EPL headline negatively (Glazer) and Karby made the top headline on the Champ. Not often you see to Yanks topping the stories. :)
