Hope the Witch Is Sent to Oz Matt Cooper, on the other hand, decides to fully cooperate with the Government.
That's the real question, isn't it? Either they had different sources, or the source decided to let Miller hang. Interesting. EDIT: Then again, I would expect this kind of faux martyrdom from Miller.
I have mixed feelings about this case. One the one hand, maintaining the anonymity of sources is paramount. On the other hand, (1) I'd like to see Miller get bitch slapped for her crappy WMD coverage and (2) I want Karl Rove in an orange prison jumper.
I read in a couple of blogs today that there is some rumors bubbling that now that Cooper has turned, Rove may be indicted in the next few weeks. If that happens, drinks are on me that night at The Globe pub in Chicago.
Slate put together a list of the top ten movies she should watch before going to jail...the summer slammer film festival.... http://www.slate.com/id/2122008/
Even though I am just a lowly internet reporter, I do have mixed feelings as well. I think that in this case, the move was barely justified because exposing the identiy of a CIA agent is pretty much close to pulling off treason in these times. To do it just to hurt an administration opponent to boot makes it all the worse. If Rove does the perp walk, I hope John McCain rushes up to punch him in the face for the push poll that Rove did in South Carolina in '00.
And why the hell isn't Bob Novak having to put his mail delivery on hold for the next few months? If Cooper and Miller, why not Brown Shirt Bob?
I hope Fitzgerald goes after him next, its the only way they can. BTW, Fitzgerald has done a brilliant job as the USDA here in Chicago. He has had no hesitation in going after both GOP and Democratic corruption in the state. He is right now rooting through Chicago's City Hall on a few leads and he will be prosecuting George Ryan later this year.
Remember from way back when, there were TWO leakers. We've long suspected Scooter Libby was one, but there was no consensus on the other one.
Because the crime of knowingly busting an agent's cover only applies to federal employees, and novak probably sang like a canary to the grand jury anyway.
I wonder if its not a little bit different from the normal circumstances in which the issue arises? Rather than the source giving her knowledge of a crime by talking to her, the source may have committed a crime by talking to her... That is, she is perhaps a direct witness.
