i know, the federations fight and fight the altura, how about fighting the schedule, thats why i say if they wont fight the schedule for us, then YES forget about playing in La Paz and lets play Bolivia at sea level so we can win the game.
In normal conditions we should: At home, win 7 games and try to extract 1 or 2 points from our matches against Argentina and Brazil: That is 22-23 points. Less than that, we have to go and make up in the away games. That is like 80% of the points, and Colombia has been very unefective, especially during Maturranga sting (4 out of 18). Lets say that we can live with 70% of the points (19), since we know we are a good away team (around 45% of our points). Away we can win at Peru and bring back points from Bolivia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile and possibly Uruguay. That is 7 points more. If we lose games at home, those are extra points we'll have to look for away, probably 3 or 4 more (45% is 12 points, very doable). We know 30 points are doable and if you take Maturranga games out of the equation Colombia should have been in one of the last two WCs at least. During his tenure we lost at home with the likes of Peru and Venezuela and tied with Ecuador. He won only once (Chile) in 4 favorable matches at home. We should not allow that guy near a Colombian football team ever again.
I think the things that messed Colombia up in the last qualifier was 1)Maturana 2)Pachecito ese man sirve para llenar el estadio de Barranquilla y nada mas 3)Frankie Oviedo que man mas lento y sin ningun control del balon 4)The schedule is partially to blame but hey we have to play Argentina or Brasil at home sooner or later.
Guys, Pachequito only can be blamed for a few games. He's not good with the NT, but he's not the worst. The problem was that Maturrange kept playing Angustias.... He's the second cause. Oviedo, well I would put him in the same class as Pachequito, but the problem is that after our genious coach left the house burning to its shambles, it took Rueda a few games to come up with a reliable line-up. The costeno fans are also to be blamed, since they did not support the team when they needed it the most. In my book these are the guys to take the blame for: 1. Maturranga: Enemigo Publico Numero Uno del Futbol Colombiano. 2. Barranquilla: Conditional fans, stupid figths about who gets called for NT. 3. Angustias Hernandez: Lack of Personality when wearing Yellow. 4. Rueda: Had a wonderful run, put the team in position to qualify, only to blew it in the last three games.
I normally tend o agree with you but blaming Barranquilla is dumbest I've heard. Don't balme the crowd support because it's after their own inefficiency the stadium doesn't sell out.
I wouldnt blame the Barranquilla crowds for Colombias horrible qualifiers, but I would certainly blame them for just plain sucking as a crowd. the number and intensity level of the fans is one of the things i guess the FCF takes into account when choosing a city to play in. and Barranquilla got an -F in that. so they lost the national team, which is something Cali, Medellin, and Bogota fans truly and really want. The Barranquilla fans may say that they want the NT in barranquilla, but they sure as hell did not show it in the most critical games last year My vote still goes to Medellin, the people there would pack the stadium for the national team any day, any time, and it wouldnt matter if their favorite player was on the team or not. The Bogota fans also show up for the NT, it's just that I dont think that altitude benefits us anymore than it hurts opposing teams.
When Colombia loses 4-0 to Boliva and has 1 point after 5 games.... its hard for people who dont have much money to go watch a crap team when u know the team has talent but doesnt give a shit. U can only support something like that for so long, because its heart breaking ! No on can tell me they still arent hurting from Copa America.... Colombia should not play in either Bogota(will be bad for foriegn bases players, unless we are going to play with all home bases ones) or Barranquilla(fickle fans). We will play in Bogota because thats what the mafia of our fed wants even tho the euros dont like it but who cares because the old euros arent coming ever again.
Colombia had a very real fighting chance towards the end of the qualifiers, in those three games that we pwnd Ecuador, Uruguay and Peru the attendance was pathetic and embarrassing. and earlier on when the Radio stations and newspapers in Barranquilla were calling for a boycott of the NT because Rueda had thought about not calling up 'pachequito' and Arzuaga was the last straw for me. And if you recall, the only reason that many of the few fans showed during those three games was because there was a promotion with beercaps or something that allowed people to trade in or caps for tickets. in Bogota all you need to do is mention the NT and 50k rolos will fill up El Campin. they dont have much more money than the Barranquilleros, and their atmospheric conditions are just as uncomfortable as they are in Barranquilla. In Medellin the 35k to 40k people that fit in the stadium, make as much noise as 70k or 80k in any other stadium in S.A., and when Atl. Nacional has bad seasons, the fans still show up by the masses. Barranquilla has no excuse what so ever for losing the NT. and they should be the last city to be considered for games in the future. Bogota, Medellin, and Cali deserve the team.
Wow, read the part where they say that Angel is just as good as Becks. ...I don't really know about making that type of comparison. Angel: Not Beckham, still hot Juan Pablo Angel is not spicing up the MLS like Beckham, but the Colombian is hotter than hot By John Meyer Denver Post Staff Writer Article Last Updated: 07/19/2007 02:41:23 AM MDT Commerce City - Juan Pablo Angel didn't come to America pursued by paparazzi. His wife isn't "posh," and Angel concedes she can't sing. "No," he laughs, "not at all." David Beckham (and his wife Victoria) are generating the buzz around Major League Soccer, but soccer fans know Angel is every bit as good. And because of the position he plays (striker), he might be more exciting to watch. Angel enters tonight's All-Star Game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park as the leading vote-getter in the selection process. The Colombian international acquired as a "designated player" by the New York Red Bulls in April scored nine goals in his first seven games. Americans may not appreciate the subtlety of Beckham's playmaking, but they understand scoring. Angel delivers. "He's the kind of player who takes half-chances and scores," said Pablo Mastroeni, the lone Rapids player in the All-Star Game. "You lose track of him ... and you're picking the ball out of your net." Angel came from Aston Villa of the English Premier League, which purchased him from Argentina's River Plate in 2000 for a $19 million transfer fee. He will make $6 million over the next two seasons, about what the Los Angeles Galaxy will pay Beckham this season. "As a soccer player, he's equal to Beckham," Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo said. "Beckham brings the whole package with Hollywood fame, but you take away the goals Angel has scored and (the Red Bulls) are at the bottom of the table. I really hope they give him the recognition he deserves because he is a true professional who is going to help New York and help soccer in America." Under the league's new designated player rule, teams are allowed to sign a superstar who is exempt from the salary cap, with the league paying a fraction of his salary and the team picking up the balance. There have been four: Angel, Beckham, Cuauhtemoc Blanco (Chicago) and Claudio Reyna (New York). Each team gets one designated player slot, but teams can trade them, which is how New York wound up with two. Blanco and Beckham have yet to make their MLS debuts, but Angel has been spectacular. "Anybody who comes in and scores nine goals in the first seven or eight games has proven himself to be a good player," said former Rapids forward John Spencer, a Houston assistant coach who will assist all-star coach Steve Nicol tonight. "Fantastic soccer player." He's humble and professional, with a reputation for being the first to practice and the last to leave. Angel couldn't speak English when he went to England, letting his hair grow because he didn't know how to ask for a haircut. Now he wears his hair short and speaks English well. His adjustment to the MLS has been easier than he expected. "You don't normally adjust to a new league that quick," said Angel, 31. "To start with, I was welcomed by everyone and that makes your life easy. Then I got off to a very good start. I'm delighted with the way I have started, with the way I have adjusted to the league so far, and I'm really looking forward to enjoying my time here." Angel said fans and players overseas don't give the MLS enough credit. "Obviously it's not the best league in the world, but it's a very competitive league, very physical," Angel said. "It's going to keep growing and getting better and better. We're in a great position because the attention generated by Beckham is going to be huge. We've got to make the most of that." Angel says he isn't jealous of Beckham's mega-contract, which could be worth $250 million with bonuses and ancillary income. "The people who are paying him think he is worth it," Angel said. "Now he has a responsibility to fulfill, and I'm sure he's going to do it. " The good thing about Beckham is that he's very professional. He's still fit enough to play anywhere in the world. The challenge is to make Beckham happy by making a very competitive league."
Well, I do not know if Angel is better, but Beckham is at least unidimensional. He cannot be that bad, and I can think of a few players that are more overrated than him. On a different topic, I am waiting for my friend the NYRB fan to cash on my comments about Angel being better off playing for Celtic than comming to MLS But all and all, MLS players are in top form at this moment while Celtic is just starting their pre-season.
rodagella has scored 5 goals in 5 games and has like 3-5 assist... Angel has scored 1 goal in 1 months and is 32..... Renteria hasnt scored a goal since Inter.... GET OVER UR HATE FOR RODAGELLA !!! Right now he is on a hot streak and Mexican league is 100x more competivie than the MLS I dont see him going away any time soon as long as he is scoring... him up front creating chances and having a killer up front like Montero or Falcao can work for us... as I see Camelo alot like Rodagella and dont think they would work too well together also we need CARLOS HIDGALDO !!! that kid is amazing did any one watch the game against 11 caldas !! Wow the 1st goal, almost every goal comes from that kid tho I am really happy for him I am worried that PAsto might win again this year and lose this kid and suck again because he keeps it up he isnt stayin in Colombia
Dude you are on drugs Rodallega is 21 and only has manage to scored only 3 goals in almost 8 months in Mexico.. (not counting cheesy friendly games) JPA has scored 10 goals in 13 games in the MLS and he is 32!! http://web.mlsnet.com/stats/ JPA also scored 68 goals in the Premier League. something no Colombian player has ever done in England.. When JPA was Troncallega's age he was tearing it up in River, where he scored 32 goals.. Let's send Troncallega to England and see if he lasts even 6 months! (and no sane Premier team will pay a dime for a guy who can't even score a penalty kick on a Copa America!!) The Mexican league is more competitive than the MLS? bhahahah If the Mexican teams are so great, how come they got their asses kicked at the Superliga? The DC United, Red Bulls, Chicago Fire, Dallas FC and NE Revolution can beat any team in the Mexican league.. Maybe you should do some research first before posting nonsense
