I watched the second half. He had trouble with the left wing he was marking, and was beaten by him off the dribble three times into the 18. It was not a good game for him. Rust, maybe?
#BMGhttps://t.co/ReNkOTHoCF— Borussia Mönchengladbach @ RP ONLINE (@fohlenfutter) March 7, 2022 Joe #Scally had a difficult time on the right side of defense at VfB Stuttgart #Borussia , but also received too little support from his colleagues. Nevertheless, a starting eleven place could jump out for him next Saturday. #BMG
Typical peaks and valleys with a young player. I'm not overly worried. It happens. For me, it was all about experience this season. Next season I hope to see a little more consistency across the board for Scally.
Being a former athlete and a coach myself, you see this a lot with young players. At first, they use their given natural talent. Then as they learn the system and different technique/skills it becomes information overload. It could also be a change in tactics. BMG playing three in the back and Scally not being the preferred choice at the back three which usually requires three CB’s. A natural FB can either blend in the midfield like Dest under Koleman or not be able to unseat the middies in a three back system. Whatever it is, it isn’t working for BMG so I expect a few tactical changes shortly and for Scally to find his way back on the pitch.

Some folks love to apply that to McKenzie (and applied it to Cannon earlier in the season). In Scally's case, he's in poor form (likely due to youth and inexperience which leads to an inability to pace himself through a full season), and so is right now "mediocre"--an apt description of current play.

It's a pretty important match. Hertha is 4 points back in 17th place. A win would give Mönchengladbach some much needed breathing room.
Watching the first 30 minutes of this match, and if I’m a USMNT supporter, I’m clamoring for this young man to be in fold for qualifiers.
A much-underestimated factor in a youth player's debut season petering out a bit in the early spring. Players can't go at 110% all-game, every game for an entire season without getting knackered physically or - more important - mentally. I, for one, wouldn't mind him picking up a knock and getting 3-4 weeks off but that won't happen. Gladbach are having a pretty lousy season with many, many players underperforming and he's nearly a lock starter at this stage. The coach believes in him. That's what counts. Berhalter doesn't. That's just dumb.
Scally goes 90 in a big 2-0 win. He started on the right and moved to the left when Lainer came on for an injured Netz. Got a yellow card for a professional foul. Earned the corner that was converted into the second goal with a decent shot that was pushed over the bar. WhoScored gave him a 7.1 (one of the lower ratings for the starters).
Which is all you need to know about the guy who gave the rating tonight, if not the WhoScored rating system as a whole. He wasn't brilliant in any way, but he was calm, effective and composed on both flanks throughout. What the English call "a good day at the office" in short.

The match is currently suspended for "safety instructions." The assistant ref was hit by a thrown objects.
Xavi should look at Scally for Barcelona because he could do Yordi Alba type stuff on the right side. Also he can fill in for Alba if the latter is N/A
Seems he's been out with a knock for the last few days: https://www.ligainsider.de/joe-scal...joe-scally-tritt-angeschlagen-kuerzer-318756/
I hope he gets well soon because Lanier is also injured. For #USMNT #Scally watchers, Stefan Lainer has a muscular injury & misses tonight’s Austria-Scotland game. So perhaps an opportunity for Joe Scally this weekend with Gladbach at home against Mainz. https://t.co/DI3aGfTEs0— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) March 29, 2022
