Interesting piece with what we all fans already know. The 2 things I don't agree with is that it's tough to calculate profit/loss for the host country. Brazil will definitely fare better than SA IMO as 8/12 stadiums should have regular use and hopefully will improve the quality of the national championship. Also the alcohol issue. I don't see that as a big deal (other than the arrogant way Valcke stated his intention). The type of people going to the WC won't be the type that will cause any issues with the consumption of alcohol. Club football in SA is a completely environment different than the WC.
Watched it on TV and he was right on. Fell on mostly deaf ears in the US? Perhaps they should spend some of that billion training ref's. Hate the fact it's going to be in Qatar. How many lives for stadiums with no other use? Should be boycotted. And now corruption charges finally coming to light. Moving up in age and would love to go live, now it looks like I have to wait till 2026. Isn't it Europe's turn (England)? North America?
Europe is getting the 2018 world cup. Assuming they want to put the 2030 world cup in Uruguay (we'll see how that goes) , England doesn't get another crack until 2034. North America will have gone 8 cycles w/o a World Cup by 2026 (assuming 2022 doesn't get moved), it would be pretty shocking for CONCACAF not to get 2026.
If you consider Russia part of Europe, yes. But I'm not going there either. Personal preference. Mexico is part of North America also. Either way it would make it easier for me to get it past the wife but somewhere foreign would be nice. Guess I'm getting picky in my old age.
