They won 2-0 against a desperate Schalke already staring down the abyss. JAB did well enough.

This player is back. Caught a lot of flack for poor performance etc

but CLASS is permanent FORM is temporary - something that a lot of his critics apparently fail to understand.

of course, it was always going to take a while for him to get back up to speed after such a lengthy spell not playing....

Good form for Hoffenheim, 3 wins in a row.

This is probably his last hurrah and he should stick to his club, to make it last as long as possible.

Starts against Bayern. BM in a bit of disarray and CF's Choupa Moting and Mane out for this match.

Couldn't watch but he's getting praise, as is the CM pair and their keeper.

Brooks had 4 blocks and 8 headed clearances. he stayed with his man in the box. Great performance from big John.

Materazzo didn't have his guys prepared to bring pressure on the ball after clearing corner kicks which cost them the goal they conceded. They were lucky not to concede a second and the whole shooting match for the same reason - it was nullified by VAR which spotted an offside. Things improved when Hofenheim finally brought some subs in at the end.

Otherwise I'd say it was a good performance from Materazzo. His striker doesn't understand counters which is too bad. He is getting full value from Angelino which is a good sign. Everybody falling back in rythm with man to man defense (how is retreating defense?) just helps the other team take the ball unopposed into the net. Somebody has to "cover" the retreat or everybody gets slaughtered.

Hoffenheim return to form after a 4 game unbeaten streak - inlcuding the BM tie, with a 3-1 loss to Koln yesterday. Brooks again anchoring a back 3. YC early in the game after a disputed PK. Dunno if it was related. Hoffenheim still 4 points out of the drop zone. Last game against Stuttgart in a month or so could be interesting, but hopefully they're safe by then.

Their next four games are all against teams in the top 10. So, hold on to your butts.

Yeah, Eintracht is one they have to hope to get points from. Not much for Frankfurt to play for in league and hopefully they beat Stuttgart and are tired and looking past Hoffenheim to the Pokal. Need to pick up points there, Wolfs maybe. Stuttgart have an easier (on paper) schedule, but also have the Pokal in there - but it could easily come down to the last game of the season for 1899 and Stuttgart

Hoffenheim lose 1-0. The mistake from Brooks was costly

Glad I watched the video. Was expecting Gregor Kobel level horrible and was pleasantly surprised.

The basic problem with JAB is that he has a hell of a time changing direction.

You don't want him when facing teams full of lithe, agile attackers. That is, most of the good CONCACAF teams.

There is a reason he can look good against a team like Bayern. When all he has to do is defend, and play in the last third of your field.

Take that away and he is a liability.

His best seasons came with a dedicated D midfielder in front of him, and fast partners and fullbacks.
It‘s wasn‘t Greg‘s fault that Brooks looked bad. Maybe if we played aimless JK possession and bunker ball things would have been different.

JAB seems to only play well on German soil.

Brooks starts again for Hoffenheim in their match today against Stuttgart. Hoffenheim would need a truly unprecedented swing in goal differential today to fall into the relegation playoff, so the key is to not get multiple red cards!

Brooks only member of the back 3 to go 90. Ends 1-1. Hoff land a totally anonymous 12th.
