I've been thinking of that a lot lately. Although it is being played up, it seems like the ground game in rather anemic. Casting doubt on vote-by-mail and relying on day-of-voting seems like it will backfire spectacularly.
I like to think of the Trump campaign as low-level movie mobsters. They know there's not chance to win, so they're stealing as much as they can. Everything must go. And when there's nothing left to steal or sell, you burn the whole thing down. It's all profit. And then finally, when there's nothing left, when you can't borrow another buck from the bank or buy another case of booze, you bust the joint out. You light a match.
I don't really believe in making predictions based on turnout before vote counting started, but I also keep wanting to predict what will happen based on turnout.
I wondered about this too. You don't need too many Trump voters deciding it's just not worth the effort to destroy any hope Trump might have. And I suspect some small percentage of would-be Trump voters don't want to bother showing up to vote for a guy who they think will lose. At least a small percentage of would-be Trump voters can read polls.
That's because Trump is not really Republican. Well, come to think of it, the Republican base is not really Republican. Republicans are not really Republicans anymore.
LOL! That would be poetic justice. So much effort spent into trying to suppress the opposition's votes, and not enough into trying to get your own supporters to the polls.
Meanwhile, my election day plans are going well. Drinking espresso outside my favorite coffee place. That's coffee number 3.
I’m working (or more accurately “working”), so very envious of your ability to beer up early. But I am about to treat myself to a pad Thai loaded with crabmeat for lunch, this is not a day for austerity.
This is absolutely me. I thought this was me as well, but I 'treated' myself to Popeyes and it was...not as good as I remembered. I very rarely indulge in junk/fast food but I didn't pack much for lunch. Plus they got the side wrong.
Guys, I know there's a lot of stress, but I hope you take the time to appreciate the moment, to enjoy this evening. We are witnessing history. I remember the first election in Argentina after the military coup, won by Raul Alfonsin in 1983 - over 35 years ago. It was something special, and I'll never forget how I felt. Today I feel the same way. I believe that what happens in the next few hours will be a turning point in the history of the United States. My friends, this will be a night to remember! Cheers!
Thanks for this. I do hope that tonight is not only the end of our slide into autocracy, but also the beginning of a re-commitment to building a better democracy.
I figure Biden is going to win the following: California - 55 ec votes New York - 29 Illinois - 20 New Jersey - 14 Virginia - 13 Washington - 12 Massachusetts - 11 Maryland - 10 Colorado - 9 Oregon - 7 Connecticut - 7 New Mexico - 5 Rhode Island - 4 Hawaii - 4 Maine - 4 Delaware - 3 Vermont - 3 District of Columbia - 3 ---‐-----------------‐---------------- 213 votes So he needs 57 battleground votes: New Hampshire - 4 Wisconsin - 10 Minnesota - 10 Michigan 16 Nevada - 6 Arizona - 11 ‐--------------------------- 57 votes So he could win without Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia or Texas. However, because Maine splits its electoral college votes, he may need one more state. In the last election Clinton won 72.5% of the Maine vote but only got 3 of the 4 electoral college votes. Trump got the other. Remaining battleground states: North Carolina - 15 Georgia - 16 Pennsylvania - 20 Florida - 29 Texas - 38 Ohio - 18 Iowa - 6
I was supposed to get up at 4:15 and be in by 5am. I slept intermittently dreaming vividly of murders/murdering/being murdered and really intense sex. It was like that Event Horizon video they found of the crew that had vanished. It sucked. I decided to call it a day. Reboot. Hopefully tonight I dream of hiking, water skiing, and pushing my daughters on the swing.
