JJD STILL injured and recovering from whatever happened at end of last season that kept him from Villa's final match and Colombia June friendlies. Apparently, Villa are taking offers for Cam Archer INSTEAD of Duran according to rumors, which might signal a more serious commitment with Jhon. I think this helps explain why he hasn't been loaned as he wouldn't have been able to pass a physical anyway. Worst timing for Jhon and Colombia. I have to admit I was totally baffled by his handling in July because I didn't appreciate severity of injury - but it really begs question as to what happened to him? As well as Buendía, Emery confirms that Leander Dendoncker, Álex Moreno, Jacob Ramsey, Bertrand Traoré, Jhon Durán and Tim Iroegbunam are all unavailable to face Newcastle United on Saturday.#NEWAVL pic.twitter.com/kBC2itx72J— Aston Villa (@AVFCOfficial) August 10, 2023
Really puts a damper on his season, after coming in January and not getting a ton of game time getting a full pre season to work with the manager and teammates was probably the most important thing for him. Fingers crossed he's back soon and he gets minutes.
Unai Emery says Jhon Duran is likely to return to training next week after injury before having two to three weeks of consistent work on the training pitch.#AVFC— Jacob Tanswell (@J_Tanswell) August 10, 2023
Here's to hoping he is fit and a possible starter when they start up Europa Conference League on the 24th. (But that may be too optimistic.)
A fitness update ahead of #AVLEVE. 🗞️Jacob Ramsey is still "some weeks away" from a return to training, while Emi Buendía and Tyrone Mings are long-term absentees. pic.twitter.com/O6zY9Y5HPn— Aston Villa (@AVFCOfficial) August 18, 2023
Keep your eye on the clock!Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran scored 50 SECONDS after coming on! 🤯📺 @USANetwork pic.twitter.com/FHclF6qkin— NBC Sports Soccer (@NBCSportsSoccer) August 20, 2023
awesome hope he gets some more this season. He cost them a crap ton of money glad they haven't given up on him and that his builds his confidence. Looked emotional after the goal. Keep them coming We desperately need a #9
Finally . I thought he was still not ready to play . Imagine if he we had him for the wc . Cardenas would have put hurtado in the starting line up tho lol
Wow! Talk about seizing your opportunity when you get it. Many of us here were questioning whether he should even be at Villa, and I myself was beginning to write off the next few months for him after having no pre-season. Doubt he'd have ever gotten in if Villa weren't up by 3. This was BIG.
Well taken goal that he manufactured with his own hustle off their mistake. Love that he then handled England's keeper like a speed cone. Also, really nice to see Dibu Martinez mentoring him a bit after the game and giving him encouragement.
The fans really love him at Villa. The comments of excitement on his goal yesterday were really great to see. Over 40% of fans asking that he start against Hibs mid week (in a poll on the site formerly known as Twitter).
I mean who wouldn't route for this kid! Come on!
That goal seems to have been VERY important in its timing. Villa are apparently selling Cam Archer to Sheffield, meaning that they only have JJD and Watkins at 9 for the Prem (and hopefully ECL).
This season yes. Richarlson scored 1 goal in premier league this season and last season combined, but has 2 from UEFA last season. So technically he's beating him by 2... Pulisic still has more goals though
Villa destroyed hibernian today in conference league, would have been a good chance for Duran to get 90 minutes
