My guess is they called it alternate because they plan on using it at home several times this year. No better way to sell more of them...
See, this is the problem I'm referring to. The Rapids have 2 jerseys this year, that's all. There's no "real" road kit, the flag jersey is the road kit. You've got the burgundy with season ticket holder names and the flag kit, that's it. And we only play 17 road games.
I don't know about several times, but I do expect us to wear it at home at least once for exactly that reason.
So basically our 3K+ in STHs is actual from 1,451 "transactions", per the 1 name per STH grouping “The great thing about the Colorado primary jersey is that it has all 1,451 season ticket-holder names in the jersey,” said Mike Walker, adidas product manager. Meanwhile the Portland womens team has over 5K... Ives Galarcep @SoccerByIves Very impressive #NWSL MT @MerrittPaulson: The Thorns will be right around (likely above) 5,000 season tickets at the end of this wk.
I think it is simply Dave Lindholm (and others possibly) didn't like the secondary moniker. When they first put out the info about the tour there was a lot of confusion then because they were saying primary and alternate. I mentioned to him that MLS was using primary and secondary and his response was "Yeah. I think I'll stick with "alternate" in our stuff. Nothing secondary about the new#RapidsJersey." They brought this confusion upon themselves.
The 1,451 number is full season ticket holders IIRC. Paulson could be including full- and partial-season ticket holders in his number.
No, I'm pretty sure that's season ticket holder accounts. Last year we had close to 3600 full STH's. There are 1451 names on the jersey, one per account, but most accounts have 2 or more season tickets on them.
And also remember you had to be a season ticket holder a month or two before last season began to get on the jersey. I can't remember the figure, but one of the "successes" of last season was they dramatically improved the number of season ticket holders, so that could also explain the difference in the numbers.
i take it will keep this kit as a third next year as we design a away kit. but with the home kit being mostly white... i would like to see an actual away it more burgundy. if you look at last years away and this years home almost looks like two home kits.
If you have blame someone, blame the mother of it all: Spain. Colombia, Real (Salt Lake), Colorado are all connected in one way or another.
Hinchey's comments in the Post yesterday seemed to indicate this will be our road/secondary/alternate for the next two seasons. We'll get a new home/primary kit next year. You need to get your eyes checked, the only white is on the sleeves...

You know, it just occurred to me that I think most people are naturally excepting the shorts to be blue (since Salt Lake tends to have same colored shirts and shorts). What if they're red? Red shorts would look really good and definitely be a move towards being unique.
I think the socks will be yellow stripes with blue shorts with gold going down from hip to knee. maybe a double even triple the red they are using looks really akward still think white stripes including badge would be waaaay nicer. the home kit... the shorts are white correct?
I actually was thinking that yellow/gold shorts would be awesome and more unique/contrast than red. Then it would start looking like Colombia traditional away look, or the away of NYRB a year or two ago. If they are blue shorts, hopefully their is a big Red C with a gold disk at the base of the right leg on the shorts
I'd like to see white shorts and blue socks with the new secondary jerseys, try to get the blue/white/blue look of the flag when you take in the full picture.
