The Jerez Team found out that the CEDD (Which stands for we will screw any team except Real Madrid and Barcelona) if there is any violence in your stadium especially if you are an Andalucian team has sanctioned the team with 4 games home field closure due to incidents against Salamanca last season.

This is the same bunch of thugs who let zaragoza off the hook when their fans invaded the pitch and an all out assault took place on Zaragoza players. If you remember the images Toro Acunha was running around chasing fans and kicking them. Yet they banned Betis for two game because of one punk setting off roman candles with no injuries, go figure!

Here is the article in Spanish!

Fútbol.- El Xerez califica de "impresentable" la sanción impuesta a su estadio

JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA (CADIZ), 6 Ago.

Why would they treat Andalucian clubs/fans differently?

Pichi, with all due respect, when was the last time the fans at Real Madrid or Barcelona invaded the pitch to the point that the home players felt the need to escort the opposition off the field, allowed seats to be torn out at will and thrown over the wall at the risk of serious injury to the fans exiting the stadium, as well as a fan setting off an arsenal of bottle rockets? The reason for suspending Betis was not because of one punk shoting off roman candles, it was because the team did not up the security level as needed. I doubt the LFP wants Betis to lose two home games against Real Madrid and Barcelona in their 50,000 plus stadium.

I do agree all teams should be treated equal and that isn't always the case. But lets not excuse bad behavior by minimizing what really happened.

    Qdog,

In one way Pichi does have a point though. Madrid and Barcelona fans have hit opposing players with things such as lighters but all they get is a fine. If a different team does similar acts (such as Betis-Sevilla) they have their stadium closed down. I guess we have no clout with the Spanish FA (certainly not as much as those two clubs).

Absolutely, but let's not misrepresent what happened at Lopeda stadium and why. The jerks got to take over the stadium because Betis didn't have sufficient security. That being said, I do hope they delay the sanction until after they host Real Madrid and Barcelona. Historically their fans have been good with a few bad apples, like just about every club.

What about the Zaragoza match at the end of the season? Fans invading the pitch attacking their players. Toro Acuna running around kicking the fans who assaulted him, etc. Their stadium has not been sanctioned and to me what occurred with Zaragoza was 5 times worse than in the Villamarin. I and most Beticos agree that Lopera is guilty for not having upgraded security after previous incidents.

The question is what do you do to fans of opposing teams. I like the idea that they do in Scotland where only season ticket holders can get tickets to away games where their teams play. That way the club is responsible for the behavior of their fans. They trash the place and get arrested and the club revokes their season ticket status. I bet you not a damn thing happened to the Biri Biris who derby after derby trash the stadium. Personally having been to 1FC Nurnberg-Bayern Munich matches which were considered maximum risk matches. Cops with German shepards ringing the stadium, once you got thru them you then had to go through one more security check. Anybody who got out of hand during the game was arrested and God forbid the poor soul who decided to take on the Polizei, they got the crap kicked out of them (deservingly so). If the police would do that at the Derby against the Biri Biri and the moron who lit the roman candles I am sure they would think twice about doing that in the future.

One should be able to go to the stadium without the fear of getting injured by some supporters fighting or stupidity!

Pichi, I agree totally with your last post, except that I don't have an opinion on the Jerez matter because I don't recall it. This could provide at least some support to your opinion as I watch Gol a Gol religiously and they would have covered the event closely.

Here's hoping Betis gets their first two home games back. I don't want them to have any excuses for being at 0 points going into game 6. ;)
