yes, this is the official thread if you want to say something in particular about him, his career and stuff like that.

As for the lineup, well I guess we'll find out soon if he wants to stick with 5-4-1

I preferred Stojkovic. But Aguirre is not Dunga, that's a begin.

Don't like this appointment, I have a bad feeling that the NT won't get the regeneration it truly needs. Would have preferred Stojkovic or someone with knowledge of Japanese football.

Wouldn't like Stojkovič and definitely think Aguirre is a better man for the job but am not exactly thrilled by this appointment also. I have however no expectations what so ever from the Japan football team so it will be easier to watch this and hopefully I wont build up some of them for the next WC

From what I read about his time coaching Mexico he deployed a flexible 4-3-3 with a dropping DMF that can quickly form a 5-2-3/3-4-3. In other words a very flexible modern system. In any case he should base his system on the players he can use, and not the other way around, but tactical flexibility is never a bad thing.

I think people were still silently hoping for a coach of a bit of an higher stature, nothing more. We'll see what he can do

JFA has not announced it yet, so it is not official. though many news says he will be a next JNT manager.

I don't like this appointment at all. I follow the Mexico NT a bit and my impression of him is that he is coach with a propensity for making logic-defying decisions. He also has a real stubborn streak and is poor at managing team chemistry. Not what we need.

Not to mention we're going from a coach who only 3 players in the team could communicate with to a coach who nobody in the team (except maybe Kawashima) can communicate with without an interpreter.

Well Japanese coach in that case would almost be a must or at least the one speaking German and English so....

Look at what Costarica are achieving atm look at the group they were in and how they are playing with the team and look at their coach. Some known name or not. What matters the most is that the team and every player on the field has a clear idea of what to do and that they all fight and breathe as one and give their max.

it was the approach of Mexico (always is), Chile and Costa Rica for instance in this WC and they were doing really well with it.

It is also usually the approach of the Germans

Aguirre is certainly an improvement over Zaccherooni.

In the end he might be the best available/possible option.

What about the former Gamba coach? I forgot his name, he is the new coach somewhere else.
