    (loose English interpretation of the Japanese interpretation of the French comments):
    "I was very pleased to see that the base of the team I built in Japan is still intact. I achieved great success with these players, and it may take a while before we (Qatar) can advance to the level I created in Japan. But since you have seen the great quality of the team I created in Japan, now you have proof that I will be able to do the same thing for Qatar."

    Very little, if anything.

    But as excuses go, its a pretty good one. I would bet that the Qataris will swallow it, at least for the time being.

    Why would he need an excuse? Qatar is clearly an inferior team to Japan so a 1-0 loss at this stage is no disaster. To bring up a team like that will take several years.
