Some slightly non-specific 'dad-blasting' for a little attention: Well done Feyenoord Academy & Jamie Dunning! Not such a good weekend for Feyenoord. Dunning has been called up by Canada U17s. His most recent US U17 appearance was in October. He made an appearance as a substitute for Canada in today's U-17 CONCACAF Championship opening loss against the USA. Please correct me if I am wrong, but he is now provisionally tied to Canada.
He's listed as a freshman on the fall 2020 roster at NCAA D1 Utah Valley. https://gouvu.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster https://gouvu.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/james-dunning/7242 Signing announcement from January: Dunning, a 5-foot-9-inch attacking midfielder, has been part of both the U-17 and U-15 National Teams for both the United States and Canada. He was part of FC Dallas, a member of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Dunning is currently with Sparta Rotterdam's U-19 team in the Netherlands and the year prior was with Feyenoord's U-17 club in Rotterdam. "Jamie is one of the most dynamic and creative attacking players in the country. He can play anywhere along the front line, or centrally in the midfield, and his experience with the U.S. and Canadian National Teams, paired with his experience at FC Dallas, Feyenoord, and Sparta Rotterdam is unmatched," Maas said. "Jamie's versatility, instinctive play, and confidence is game-changing. He is a winner, with tremendous character, and our 12th Wolverines are sure to be entertained watching this young man play." https://gouvu.com/news/2020/1/22/mens-soccer-maas-announces-three-signings-to-nlis.aspx
I wonder if he is on scholarship. If so, he would not have been on contract in Holland. Interesting his new coach has a Dutch last name. Funny, how they have to give detail as to what and where Corsica is...Anyone know what kind of program this school has?
I can't speak to the on-field product in detail, having never seen the team play a game, but they've put together a competitive D1 program in a pretty short time, and seem to be in the mix for a decent number of what you might call "national prospects" who surely had options elsewhere. No idea if they are giving full soccer scholarships but I would guess that the package a guy like Dunning gets is good. For better or for worse, if I'm not mistaken they're the only D1 male program in Utah, which I figure gives them a leg up on in-state players. (BYU has a club team that is very strong, and used to compete in the PDL but recently stepped back from that.)
Appears to be headed to parts unknown for non-soccer reasons. https://www.ksl.com/article/5003037...gun-at-group-of-people-on-byu-campus-arrested
Ouch! He can probably kiss his soccer scholarship goodbye, although that's probably the least of his worries now... Major mistake...
