I think this is a case of media love affair turning people off. Meaning if the USA is a melting pot and diversity rich then why the need to celebrate the first black baseball player so much. Yearly day, ceremonies and jersey number retirement by every team? How long does MLB expect to do this?

The story of Jackie Robinson always ends of focusing on how racist white American fans and players were. People get tired of guilt

I think it's just the American public being aware of the very outsized role Jackie plays in the media narrative and the very undersized role Larry Doby played. It's a pro-Doby backlash.

You know, I've watched that video a thousand times, and this exact screen shot seems to me to confirm what I always conclude-- that he was safe. That little dimple you see in the corner of the plate in this shot is Yogi's glove, not yet onto Jackie's leg, while the Jackie's toe is just an inch or less from the corner of the plate at this point.

In addition if you watch the video it looks as though Yogi held the ball in the meat hand not the leather, which makes contact by the mitt irrelevant.

Yogi knew from the pitch before that Jackie was going to try it, he was ready for it-- and he still couldn't stop it.

Why, Bia? It's not like Mr. Robinson made the call himself. The ump's probably Whiter than Yogi.

I think Branch Rickey deserves a bit more love than he currently gets but other than that your heart is disturbingly cold.
