a three-man defense, eh? what do you think of this. i guess a 3-5-2 would be where he would go. I like how he has his eye on rosina, montolivo, pazzini, et al. with how many players we have in the midfield and the quality there, a 3-5-2 could work well. you could have two strikers, say quagliarella and toni, then all three of de rossi, gattuso and pirlo, which is very solid defensively and can win the ball. he seems to love di natale out wide on the left, so he goes there, and then maybe camoranesi, or one of rosina, or a possibility might be to play zambrotta up on the right hand side wide, if we go with three central defenders at the back. if zambrotta is one of the defenders and pazzini or gila or another striker hits form, then you could also move quagliarella back and then move the striker in, but that might be a little too offensive, lol.

i leave di natale in there cause that seems to be one of donadoni's favorite players, even if i might rather he come in as a sub if some of the other guys hit form.
interestingly, oddo now seems to be the odd man out if he plays this formation, as a 3-man defense has at least two (if not all three) cbs, and then zambrotta will be playing, so sucks for him, but it would be offensive and allow us to play to our strength, which is midfield, we could field 5 midfielders and with quagliarella, almost play a 3-5-1, which versus france would really help to win the midfield battle, and then still have toni up front to take advantage.
anyways, just might be donadoni just throwing it out there, but interesting nonetheless.

    thoughts?

Its between seasons and I've never really been a fan of picking a team between seasons. I have a feeling some more names will emerge come seasons end.

this is true for the tournament itself, but for the france qualifier, there is only one serie a game, so not too much time to emerge, hence the team selections are pretty much based on what we know now. only if someone on the borderline plays awesome the first week and does great in the friendly, then they might break in you'd think (plus injuries the first week or during training, but hopefully not too many of them).
so the way i figure it, we have about all the information we are gonna get right now, unless one thinks donadoni will make his picks on the basis of 14-0 friendlies versus serie c2 teams :p.

plus, looking ridiculous by putting one's self out on the limb prematurely is always fun, i do it all the time, lol.
    or maybe it's just me.
even if you don't give line-ups, thoughts on a three-man defense versus france?

You know what cracks me up is every year there is talk that the Serie A will have to start earlier and every year its always the same old story.....You have 1-2 league matches and then always a break for the national team.....I thought GIGI RIVA said last year when they lost to France in Septemeber that the Serie A needed to start sooner in order for the azzurri to get ready???

Donadoni just doesn't give me any confidence. I wish they would put Don Fabio in charge. I don't like this talk of a 3 man defense.

Me too, especially going into this match against France. I don't know, but I hope Donadoni can think of something, and help us get the points. Feeling kinda optimistic about this game.

Looks like Donadoni is trying to make a spot for Nesta, so he can keep Nesta from retiring.

i didn't even think about that. good point, he can play nesta, canna and matrix, and that could make everyone happy.

i don't know if he will play a 3-5-2 with two fullbacks that will play more like a 5-3-2, but the ability to start nesta is a consideration, I bet.
