Couple with the game vs Brazil on Saturday being shown on ESPN they have now started a Mexico NT insider blog: http://insider.espn.go.com/sports/soccer/blog?name=mexican_national_team thoughts?
My thought is that it's a smart move. ESPN is a business, not a political institution. They will provide the content that has an audience. Mexican soccer has a huge audience in the US. From a business perspective it likely makes sense for them to give the Mexican National Team more coverage than the USMNT.
They have for years covered Mexican National Team in Spanish with ESPN Deportes. Maybe they are planning on bidding for the broadcast rights.
They are only showing the game because they have the rights to the Brazil friendlies. FSC and Fox Deportes showed the England v Mexico game last year because they have the rights to England.
Now if only they would give the USA national team some coverage. First step would be to show a game in its entirety.
I don't know but I'm happy I get to see Brazil/Mexico in HD. Should be a great match. 3 high quality International soccer matches in HD on ESPN on Tuesday.
As much as I hate it, probably a good move to get them at their sites, as Mexicans (both sides of the border, illegal and legal alike) do give the NFL good numbers and I am certain pay some attention to basketball and baseball
If they feel like the Latino market is the way to go, its a smart move by them. Hopefully this will lead them to more soccer coverage.
