Isn't there a press conference in Houston today?

Do we really need to use pejoratives for American Football?

Yeah, but since Home Depot seems to be the major sponsor and not Club America, I'd say that name is off the list, and so is FC Houston (too much like FC Dallas).

I'd think the five top candidates would be:

    Houston Rovers
    Houston Hurricanes
    Houston Republic
    Houston Apollos
    Houston Eagles

(me, I'd like to see Republic FC)

    Pointyball?

    Bastardized rugby?

"Pads that spread pain to other places" -ball?

"The game that Harvard and McGill played in 1873" -ball?

In certain circles the term "American" is pejorative.

Yeah, but those people's opinion don't matter, so we can ignore them.

No, we don't. But some have decided to. I don't feel that I have to. But I'm not that torqued that someone did.

Allow me to suggest that we can do without self-appointed policemen-at-large who dedicate most of their time to belittling and attempting to correct supposedly errant posters.

    The setentiousness does get old.

    Anyway, Go you Houston Kickballers!

Ah come on Andy, give it a rest. How is calling an incorrectly named sport by what they do pejorative? I was attempting to not use the term "Football" in a contect where we are talking about the game the world calls Football. Now if I had called it "Gorillaball" that would still be correct but also pejorative. :p

Word. I've heard a few people claim Inter Houston would be a good name. I wish I was kidding.

Remember that we're on about the same guy who concluded that one poster from England was a mysoginist because he mentioned that he didn't care for women's soccer. The rushes to judgement and the desire to correct in the most bullying way has gotten way out of hand. But, I suppose that if you travel the continent taking pictures of Nick Garcia and Jack Jewsbury then you can justify it all.

I didn't come into this thread with eagerness to take off the gloves but, geez, I sure as heck don't feel bad about ending up doing so.

Andy, nothing personal, but ease up, will ya?

How about simply Houston Texans? It would be a good way to start a pissing contect with the bunch from Dallas ;)

    Why am I not surprised?

Andy,...you know what? Forget it. I'll just put it in the kindest way I can at the moment: you make me laugh.

Hey Mods, now that it's official and all, shouldn't the Houston board be moved to MLS Teams and SJ to MLS Expansion?

Not sure "Plain Old Houston" would fit on a jersey.

and really given the local geography it should be

    "Plane Old Houston"
