Swedish Drugs Squad Probes Sporting Syringes Used syringes have been taken from the hotel rooms of Sporting Lisbon players before Wednesday's UEFA Cup match with Malmo. "Syringes were seized and the matter referred to the drugs squad," police inspector Dan Granvik told AFP on Thursday. The Aftonbladet daily said police acted after hotel staff complained about bloody neeedles in the rooms of Brazilian Correa Anderson Polga and Portuguese Roberto Seveno. The Expressen said syringes were found in other rooms. Sporting's club doctor Jose Pereira said the syringes were used for taking multi-vitamins. UEFA's Swedish chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson said European football's governing body would investigate the police findings. "We shall investigate what has happened to see if sanctions are necessary," he said. Malmo said they would appeal Wednesday's result if the police probe showed prohibited substances had been used. "If they are guilty of doping, if they cheated, we'll take this matter a long way," said club captain Hans Mattisson.
