Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap BBC's senior football reported reckons the Torres deal is done. Oh, well.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap It's a question of who we're going to get. I don't think they're selling without someone coming in. Maybe not Carroll (who at 25 is pretty ridiculous) but maybe on his account.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap Reports he left Melwood by helicopter. What else needs to be said. I just want the details.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap Who the ******** makes up a helicopter? To what point and purpose? This is insane.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap Torres wants to go to Chelsea, not City. He wants Champions League football, not Europa League. But we're looking a bit ridiculous for this-- desperate last minute offers for everyone and anyone. And not looking particularly good.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap 30 million for a player who has yet to finish his first full season of premiership football is insane. No matter how good he might be. It's the Bale hype all over again. There used to be a time where a player had to earn the insane transfer fees. Now a decent run of form is enough to get a cuckoo transfer value attached to you. I'm actually quite relieved that Club Brugge is too small a club to be expected to play along in this madness.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap He's going to Chelsea. It's done. We're going to overpay for someone. But I'm not too worried. They need to get someone, and it's the price of business. Rooney went for a ridiculous amount, and that's turned out ok. Carroll might flop, don't get me wrong, but as long as he keeps himself straight off field, he's going to do fine on the pitch.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap This whole concept of playing in the champions league to me is absurd. Did he only give in a transfer request because we not in the champions league? We will probably not qualify for it? No. He wants to play for the money. City will offer him 300 k a week I could care less if they offer more then Chelsea take it and run! If he doesnt sign for them than he does not have any right to play even for the reserves. Let his contract run out bastard face.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap It's probably a little from column A and a little of column B. No one would argue Chelsea and City both are looking more likely to win some silverware than LFC these days.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap I don't really agree. By most accounts, he has been one of the better strikers in the EPL this season so far, if not the best. He has 11 in 19 appearances. If you're getting 50 for Torres, and you spend 30 on Carroll (who's 22 and English), while getting Suarez in the deal, I'm not sure you don't make that trade any day of the week for a rebuilding team. If we can get a winger as well, all the better. It's a ridiculous fee, but it's a ridiculous situation they're being put in.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap I'm in. and also done. Lets see what happens. Carroll is made for the EPL and all but that price is insane. Torres and Chelski have screwed us.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap And 25 is too much for Carroll, let alone 35. What an insane number. That's what Chelsea were hoping to pay for Torres for ********s sake. He would probably be good for LFC and good for Suarez, but it's still an obscene number.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap It's not the fee. The players who used to demand such massive fees had more proven track records. More than one good half season. I mean sure, the likes of Zidane, Ronaldo, ... moved for crazy money, but they had several seasons of excellence to back up the money their new team was spending.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap I agree that football has changed some. However, I don't think they make the bid if they're not certain he's more than a flash in the pan. It's absurd, but, when Darren Bent is worth 23 at a few years older, I'm not sure it isn't worth the gamble. His wage packet alone could save 2-3 million a season on someone like Llorente. If you bid 30-35 for Llorente, he's coming on 110k-120k wages. If you bid 35 on Carroll, he's probably looking at 60-80k.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap Those figures hint at panic buying, something which I hoped we should not do. Dalglish did look a bit drained at the press conference.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap We've been linked with Carroll for well over a month now - and I mean properly, not in the "journo with 500 words of transfer gossip to submit in the next 27 minutes" sense. Only the timing and the entirely unconfirmed amount suggest a certain jumpiness on our part. But swapping Torres for Suarez and Carroll for a net outlay of about £8m would seem sensible business. Especially as neither will be on Torres' wages. Which, by the by, is another factor in all of this. If reports of the last hour or so are to be believed, the Torres deal with Chelsea will be worth £175k a week to him. So the cost to us of keeping Torres would have been the £50m we don't get plus £3m a year extra in wages.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap Not to mention, the Fair Play rulings account wages pretty heavily. So, the reduction would be a good thing. He's English. Of course he's going to cost a ridiculous fee.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap Looking at those figures, CL be damned it seems it was ALL about the money. At any rate, it's not bad business if LFC really got 50 million pounds. Almost doubled what they gave up to get him, hard to argue with that. Still waiting for confirmed details, probably won't come for hours just to annoy me.
