i find it amusing that so many keep on bashing Becks' quality as a player.Does anyone believe Arsenal's manager has an idea if someone is good or not.He says Beckham is an amazing player and still has it.Why do people like Alan Shearer say Becks should step aside?

If what you have isnt better than what you had then why go with the younger player? If your really about winning or qualifying then you must put your best 11 on the field.Becks is still the best set piece and passer England has.

Landon says he is the best passer of the ball he has ever seen.

I could quote alot of other people who say Becks is still world class.

Players and managers heap empty praise on other teams players all the time, it doesn't mean anything.

Especially when it come from his own teammates.

I think the fairest way to judge is what was he like the last time he was totally match-fit? Well, look what he did with Real Madrid. That's what I'm judging by. Until I see otherwise, I have to say he's still world-class.

He's world class in certain aspects of his game, i.e. crosses and free kicks but as a total package, I'm reluctant to say that he ever was in the first place, let alone anymore.

he was never world class. stop trying to measure dick sizes and be glad you have one of the most recognizable players in the world, who happens to still be a quality player.

the last time he played for madrid, he was the worst player on the pitch and almost cost them the league. he had a good 2 month stretch leading up to that which was preceeded by 3 years of mediocrity. it's amazing how history can be revised in 9 months.

are you ********ing mental? beckham has never been a great passer of the ball. he delivers a good ball from the wing, but if you're suggest he is a clever and intelligent play-maker, you are friggin crazy.

well you and i disagree here.Ive been watching him a long time and compared to my world view of the game he is a great passer of the ball.I know he doesnt have blazing speed but his passing recognition timing and soccer I.Q. are all exceptional.....IMO.

then i don't value your opinion of a good passer in the game. of all the things beckham was ever good at, passing wasn't one of them. he has also never been know for having a great "soccer IQ," and was constantly criticized for it by Fergie in his time at United, so I don't know what you are basing that opinion on. If he was such a great passer of the ball, with such superior soccer intellegence, he would have been playing the middle of the park his last years at Madrid, instead of sitting on the bench for a team that lacked a presence in distribution once Zidane got old, and Figo left.

Beckham is what he is, and he is great at it. Don't try to pump him up to be more than he is. He is a great deliverer of long balls, and fantastic with set pieces. He will never be, and never was, a play-maker in the middle of the field. Might he be suitable in the middle of the park in MLS? Yeah, but that doesn't mean he will be a world class midfield player just because he succeeds in MLS. Like I said before, be happy that the league has the most marketable player on the planet and take it for what it is worth. False expectations, and over exhageration of talent doesn't help the situation any. People don't need to be sold David Beckham.

i dont agree with your scouting report on Beckham. He is much better than you surmise. He isnt IMO a playmaking mid fielder but a playmaking winger who can drift all over and quickly recognize the open man.He has great touch. He has great vision and recognition.and the setpieces speak for themselves.I think you are not allowing yourself to be honest about the skill and talent he does possess. But thats my opinion.you are entitled to yours no matter how prejudiced it may be.

actually i could never understand why he didnt ever play in the middle. he's a good passer exspecally long balls and always had a good shot and of course not very fast. This skills too me should of brought him into the middle off the field, maybe he just felt more compfortable out wide?? i dunno.

also didnt beckham play when he wasnt injured and actually asked MLS to cancel there trasfer on him??

He was once given a stretch in central midfield with manchester united, and while he had most attributes for it, he cant tackle for chit and didnt have the strenght really. But i do agree he was and possibly still is a great passer, especially of the long ball, not so sure about his short range so much, or i guess he ould but didnt have the speed of thought in central midfield, his long passes he has time to look up before firing off, but in the hustle and bustle of central midfield he has limited time to make the pass.

Anyway here is a clip of his passing skills

    This.
I'd even venture to say that, as far as public acknowledgment and media is concerned, what he provides on set pieces is over-hyped. There are dead-ball specialists who are both more stunning (Juninho) and more consistent (Nakamura) in the sport.

People will probably call me a hater, but ... oh well. I don't buy the media-fed hype. Sue me.

I think Beck's still has it, he obviously keeps himself in the best shape possible, doesnt seem like a party animal which has killed many great players over the years as they age quicker and cant stay on their A-Game as they could in their 20s.

Beckham if he wanted to could go back to england right now and keep rocking those crosses and passes on the ground, and survive and do well. Hell he could still play in any of the top 3 and dominate IMO.

"Never world class"? You just lost all credibility there.

I'm not particularly a Beckham fan, but credit where credit is due. Twice FIFA World Player of the Year runner-up, 100 caps for England (58 as captain), 6 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, a Champions League title and a La Liga title and he's never been a world class player?

Maybe he isn't today, but any halfway knowledgeable follower of the game knows the career that he's had has been "world class." Your words betray your ignorance (or bias).
