Troubling news from Iraq. The US simply cannot afford anymore bad PR over there. ""Mr Sumaidaie said the ramifications of such a "serious crime" were enormous for both the US and Iraq."" http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4643481.stm
This sounds really bad - I hope there is more to it than this one side. Killing a relative of the friendly UN ambassador = really bad mistake on the PR side. I'm guessing Al-Jazeera will be all over this for days like a runaway bride. And we cannot give the impression that our soldiers are no different than Saddam Hussain's goons that would go into a house, kill one innocent person and beat another.
Envoy: GIs killed unarmed cousin Looking at Google News there are only a few US papers carrying this story today. All the editors must be off at weekend-long barbeques. Of the 175 links, only 4 or 5 are US papers. Yet it has made the major papers in more than 100 countries. Where's an embedded reporter when you need one?
Yeah, I was wondering about the lack of US media coverage. I first saw it in a brazilian online paper, then I set about trying to find it in American press. Pretty baffling since this story could have serious repercussions.
Piffff... We have the bigsoccerBot! In truth, this just sucks. I was listening to NPR as usual today and as they started the headlines, I just waited for the latest bad news. In reality, people die everyday and my own mother was taken to the ER twice this past week, first on Wednesday. Wednesday was my birthday. When things hit home, they hurt more. I can feel for this guy on that level, but how may have died (Iraqi) already? Usually we have turning point and leaving our personal baggage at the door, what will be the turning point?
