Iran bans Rock n' Roll! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051219/ap_en_mu/iran_music_ban Hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has banned Western music from Iran's radio and TV stations, reviving one of the harshest cultural decrees from the early days of 1979 Islamic Revolution. Songs such as George Michael's "Careless Whisper," Eric Clapton's "Rush" and the Eagles' "Hotel California" have regularly accompanied Iranian broadcasts, as do tunes by saxophonist Kenny G. But the official IRAN Persian daily reported Monday that Ahmadinejad, as head of Iran's Supreme Cultural Revolutionary Council, ordered the enactment of an October ruling by the council to ban Western music.
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! But don't you understand. The govt issues decrees, but as IM has told us, it doesn't matter. Or... this is a typical piece of western media corruption of the real story and IM will post a piece from persiantruth.com that tells the true story.
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! What I want to know is when they'll ban access to western websites like BigSoccer.com, then we'll have some peace and quiet because IM and neokunim won't show up anymore. This should get some of the students pissed off over there. Maybe a big Quiet Riot fan will take out Ahmadinejad.
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! That's nothing. In Belarus, they banned something much more important. Say goodbye, Belarussians, to: Say hello, to:
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! This particular one is a political billboard, in support of president Lukashenko's efforts to ban internet dating (invented by Iran), which, in his opinion results in human trafficking. The billboard warns Belarusian women of results of such activities. President Lukashenko is, of course, nobody's Thomas Jefferson, but he ain't about to ban rock'n'roll or call to whipe Poland off the map. Maps, incidentally, were invented in Iran. As was Poland. But not rock n roll. It's Jews all the way.
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! I thought Iran was pro-Queen because apparently Iran did invent Freddy Mercury.
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! I sense that a rebellious teenager is about to come to Iran to show the kids what they're missing....
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! Farookh Bulsara (freddy mercury) was born on the Indian island of zanzibar
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! Freddie Mercury was of Persian descent, but born in India. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3593532.stm
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! I can just imagine four Iranian guys driving around in their pre-79 Gremlin singing "Bohemian Rhapsody".
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! Oh, no worries. Bootlegs provided by criminal gangs are widely available in dark Persian alleys all across Iran. And us westerners just don't understand.
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! Do you guys really believe that Ahmadinezhad's "cultural decrees" have any effect on the life of the average Iranian citizen? This is how the poorest neighborhoods in Iranian cities look: As you can see, there is an "illegal" satellite dish on every roof and balcony. There are more free porn channels accessible in Iran than anywhere else in the world. Trust me, there is nothing Ahmadinezhad can do to stop "Western cultural invasion of Iran".
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! Persian music is much richer musically and spirtually more uplifting[even without the use of alcohol or drugs] than Rock&Roll. We should broadcast Persian music all across America, specially in the White House, the staff needs that kinda spirtuality. Persian Music Rocks!
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! don't know about "illegal" Western music... but these guys are making a lot of noise in Iran...
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! Mix of Persian music and Rock&Roll is the best of all. Listen to O-Hum's Darvish.
Re: Iran bans Rock n' Roll! fwiw: I've met some smoking hot Belarussian women. The only Belarussian women I've ever met (4+) were all pretty cute.
