It's interesting to know that the Crew has only had a 2 goal lead for a whopping total of 55 minutes this season, and has never lead by more than 2 goals. Then there is the nice fact that we have scored first 11-times, and have lost how many leads?

The most interesting part of the article is the speculation of using our last discovery option and roster spot. It talks about us finding a new defender. It also alludes that we might trade our discovery allocation to DC so that they can get their cherished old-drunkard. Who would they give us in return? Very interesting....

    I'd sure like Nelson.

I also find MLS terminology quite amusing. "Discovering" Gazza is like "discovering" Toledo. I mean, doesn't everybody know it's there?

Isn't it neilsen that you guys are speaking of? Regardless yeah, him and Duncan are buds I guess. He would be a big help for our D.

but yeah he is an SI, some tinkering would be needed...

Nelsen and reyes are probably out of the picture due to the SI problem. That leaves Prideaux and Pope as true defenders, plus McKinley and Namoff, listed as midfielders, but playing defense at DC.

I'd say either of the first two but doubt that the league is going to make DC "trade" either to us for Gazza so we'll probably get stuck with one of the other two. Of those, I'd prefer McKinley but we'll end up with Namoff.

I would love to see Pope come to town --- if he was healthy. I think that all our back line needs is an old player that can coordinate the play on the pitch. Other than Clark, our oldest defender is 25!! Clark is slow and no good -- however, I think he is able to command and adjust the defense. Look at how we have done with him starting.

Just imagine what our defense could be with a proven defender helping them out!

    From Chris Bergin at ussocceruk.com:

However, United officials claim it could be at least a couple of weeks before Gazza is able to take the pitch for United, arriving on as a Discovery allocation - 'purchased' from Columbus in return for a member of DC's playing staff.

The 35-year-old will have two full training session in the US capital, allowing United coaches to gauge his fitness levels, and attitude, before deciding on whether to go back to MLS officials and ask for the completion of the deal that will make him part of Ray Hudson's squad.

This appears to be all-but certain, with sources claiming that the player that will have to leave the United squad has already been informed of that scenario, thus allowing him time to evaluate his options.

    From DC Yesterday:

    <img src="http://us.news1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/rids/20020726/i/1027694944.2617696377.jpg">

Milton Reyes is married to US citizen, and holds a green card. I'd love to have him, but Hudson ain't giving him up.

I'd be interested in Prideaux as well, but we'll probably end up with Richie Williams.

After all they went through to get him, and the fact that they don't have anyone else who can play that spot, I don't see Reyes going anywhere.

If you're getting a defender, it'll probably be Nelson, who is an SI.

Ray "I'm not impressed with Taylor Twellman. He's just a poacher." Hudson and his impeccable eye for talent prefers both Prideaux and McKinley to him, and was rumored to be shopping him to LA earlier this season.

But Hudson's criticized Convey for not scoring enough and not carrying the team, so maybe you can get him.

But if you want REALLY interesting news, in the Manchester Umbro Football Festival, largest youth tournament in Britain and third largest in the world, "Lefty" Archer, still wearing an arm splint and playing up an age group, got the game winning assist today in stoppage time against English side Urmston Town.

This does not quite make up for the 10 - 1 pasting they took yesterday against Blackburn United, but they apparently never got their footing back after their top striker got his leg broken in the first ten minutes of play.

In the morning: Scottish side Norbury Moor Rangers.

If you don't care a good goddam about any of this, well fukk you too.

on knees, hands clasped in prayer: Please God, no. Anything but that.

On second thought, why be satisfied with a mere run of the mill hack like McCarty, when you can have Ivan McKinley?

No, I've got it! Forget McKinley, lets' just go get the guy with the steel teeth in that old 007 movie.

So that way we'd have a hairball, a rat, and old steel teeth. I may be wrong, but with that acquisition I believe that the Crew would only be lacking the world's fattest man and the bearded woman on their roster.

I understand your feelings. But you know the league will screw us and won't give us Prideaux, Pope or Reyes (whom I know understand has a green card). Therefore, it's Namoff or McKinley. And Namoff plays right back where we already have Leitch and Oughton (and Clark if needed). McKinley could give some of the other forwards the treatment McBride and Dante have received from Richmond and Colorado.
