http://www.hoosiergazette.com/News/Nov2004/news003.htm what's really funny is that the newspaper has a link to Cafe Press where you can buy I-69 shirts.
We all do know that the Gazette is a rural The Onion, right? Though now that I've posted that, I'm sure Chicago and pvan will say things like, "uh yeah. I knew that. I ... just wanted to see if you did. Duh."
"John Hostettler, the Congressman representing the 8th district of Indiana, has been convinced by local religious groups to introduce legislation in the House that would change the name of an Interstate 69 extension to a more moral sounding number." Howzabout 666?
I didn't know that. I try to avoid things involving Indiana like the plague. Hands down the worst state I've ever been to.
I was born there. But I agree. The only reason I know was that a congressman was wearing a pin about an interstate in the article. Who wears those? RS
I still don't understand why they want to change it. What is so wrong with the number 69? And what sexual undertones are there?
did you actually visit the website... as someone stated above, its a joke. like this article from the same website.. http://www.hoosiergazette.com/News/news009.htm or this one http://www.hoosiergazette.com/Sports/Nov2004/sports002.htm
I'm convinced that no one has a dirtier mind than members of the religious right. Well, except for me.
Hey, Senator Coburn just wants you to think about teenage lesbianism for a minute. And, as a concerned American, I am more than willing to do that.
Same thing happened in Pennsylvania. I hear Rick Santorum is trying to close the Hershey Highway to Intercourse.
What is really funny is that the idea that someone would want to change the name of I 69 for the reasons stated is actually quite believable. On the other hand, it's kinda scary also.
If this is the same old 666 near the Arizona-New Mexico border, the highway was renamed by the prude patrol.
Actually the Navajo who live near the highway requested a change because they thought that the number was hurting tourism in their area.
