He is not a kid anymore.
I feel he could have helped us a lot last season.. and we could have given him full minutes in CdR where we failed miserably.

Well here we are, Mariano is a Madrid player again. Here is to me hoping he proves me wrong and has one hell of a season. I wish him all the best and overwhelming success in his second stint at the club.

Glad Real Madrid is acknowleding what a mistake it was to sell before you buy. We sold Morata AND Mariano in hopes of landing Mbappe. I was strongly against doing so without securing Mbappe.

Welcome back, Mr. Diaz! Time to show us how you improved!

I'm very happy we brought anyone to replace Mayoral, but even more so for Mariano.

He deserves this and I'm sure he will make the most of it.

Same, Mayoral needs to go. Him being the best forward option after Benz was giving me heart murmurs.

I don't want to be this guy but Ligue 1 (famously known as farmers league) is nothing compared to Laliga.

Wow what insight. You should be employed and paid for your scout work.

I’m just glad we actually paid money on a forward, and made a deal that seemed obvious to everyone in getting Mariano back. It restores some faith in the management as I can see they aren’t going insane.

Maybe, but then he wouldn't have developed in a way that puts him on track to help us long term.

People will be surprised at how good he will be for us. He just keeps progressing, and there is still untapped potential there. Absolute steal!

I was watching a Mariano video from our lovely doblete season and even without the one year of "coción" as Julen would say, he was already such a nice CF.

Killer #9s are a rarity nowadays and I think this guy has everything to be a damn good one.

I'm kinda excited for this season now. I want La Liga again.

The guy was an absolute nobody two years ago and he won us two matches if I'm not mistaken.

For 21ME in this market? An absolute steal. Sure it was essentially a loan deal for a year and that could have been better worked but he's the exact player we need. Something between a striker with some decent CF skills.

Guy is going to be a hungry hungry hippo for this shirt.

Yeah it was basically a very expensive loan, but as I said in the other thread, I get the sense that sometimes selling a player outright -- even if you think you want him back -- is the best way to ensure he develops properly and that the receiving club has sufficient incentive and skin in the game to give him attention and playing time.

The loan really turned his career around. It was a grave situation for him to stay. Benzema was an "automatic" starter. Morata was always perceived as the one. Mayoral was a player Zidane rated as the next one. Who was Mariano in 2016-2017? Zidane could switch the formation if Benzema was injured. He was actually completing with Bale, Isco, Lucas, Asensio, etc for minutes. I did not remember if Morata left first and/or if Mayoral returned before Mariano left. In the summer of 2017, Mariano was the guy behind all of them.

Now, let's hope Mayoral's loan deal would work wonders for him as well.

Very good decision by the club. This guy will play his heart out every game.

Yeah I think giving Lyon the incentive to get the most out of Mariano and treat him right is something that may not happen with a typical loan move.

He is gonna be crucial to our pressing and a real menace when he comes off the bench against tired defences.

Well, shows he isnt short of confidence and is determined to succeed. I hope he lives up to it not like Soldado and Saviola with the #9.

Is just a number. The 11, 9 and 7 go to the forwards.. why use some unnatural number like 26 when the 7 is available?

I don’t read much into numbers. There are some cooler numbers than others, but they don’t really matter.

But this gives me bad memories of United replacing Ronaldo with Valencia and giving him the number 7.
