For the Reds, for Canada if you guys had to put together a starting 11 for Qatar 2022, should you guys qualify very very big if, then who would be in your starting 11 right now...this is merely for fun but I obviously wanna pick your guys' brains on this being Canadian and all
GK- Maxime Crepeau (28 years old; 2022) LB- Sam Adekugbe (27 years old; 2022) CB- Derek Cornelius (25 years old; 2022) CB- Liam Fraser (24 years old; 2022) RB- Zachary Brault-Guillard (23 years old; 2022) CDM- Samuel Piette (27 years old; 2022) CM- Scott Arfield (captain) (34 years old; 2022) CAM- Jonathan Osorio (30 years old; 2022) LW- Alphonso Davies (22 years old; 2022) CF- Cyle Larin (27 years old; 2022) RW- Jonathan David (22 years old; 2022) (4-2-3-1 formation for Canada for 2022; they have the talent to get to Qatar) Pretty young, exciting starting 11 that I just put together Bench GK- Milan Borjan, Dayne St Clair CB- Kamal Miller, Callum Montgomery, Doneil Henry RB- Richie Laryea CDM- Stephen Eustaquio CM- Noble Okello, Mark Anthony Kaye FW- Lucas Cavallini (super sub), Jayden Nelson, Tajon Buchanan If you include a bench, that makes up your 23 players for Canada
I like Kamal Miller as a leftback a lot more than Sam Adekugbe. When he's playing leftback for Canada, he seems to take that side of the field away from the opposition completely.
A more UPDATED Starting 11 for Qatar 2022 should Canada get there (4-2-3-1 formation) GK- Milan Borjan LB- Kamal Miller CB- Derek Cornelius CB- Doneil Henry RB- Zachary Brault-Guillard CDM- Samuel Piette CM- Stephen Eustaquio LAM- Alphonso Davies CAM- Scott Arfield RAM- Jonathan Osorio CF- Jonathan David Bench GK- Maxime Crepeau, Mauro Carducci LB- Samuel Adekugbe CB- Amer Didic, Joel Waterman RB- Richie Laryea DM- Liam Fraser, Shamit Shome AM- Tristan Borges FW- Cyle Larin, Lucas Cavallini, Junior Hoilett
GK - Milan Borjan RB - Richie Laryea CD - Derek Cornelius CD - Steven Vitoria LB - Kamal Miller DM - Sam Piette CM - Stephen Eustaquio CM - Scott Arfield LW - Alphonso Davies RW- Jonathan David FW - Lucas Cavallini Bench GK - Maxime Crepeau GK - James Pantemis LB - Juan Cordova CD - Doneil Henry CD - Callum Montgomery (If Ricardo Ferreira commits to Canada, he would be here instead of Montgomery) RB - Zachary Brault-Guillard CM - Mark-Anthony Kaye CM - Jonathan Osorio LM - Zorhan Bassong RW - Junior Hoilett RW - Liam Millar FW - Cyle Larin FW - Tesho Akindele
Even if Canada don't qualify for Qatar 2022, which I doubt because let's face it from CONCACAF and seeing their talent renaissance with so much emerging talent like there is no reason or excuse for Canada not to be in Qatar but let's say they miss out again in qualifying, 2026 Canada are one of the 3 co hosts which means Canada by then their team will be much more mature especially playing on home soil in their own backyard.
@devioustrevor This is not a bad Final 23 well for Canada assuming they get to Qatar but if they do, then how about players like Didic, Waterman, Borges, Jayden Nelson, Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty
Nelson and Marshall-Rutty will still probably be too young to supplant current players. You gotta remember, the team I listed is still relatively young. Didic is too hard to gauge because he's only played at a low level (CPL and USL) and Waterman hasn't really played much for Montreal, so he's hard to gauge as well. At least with my choice in Montgomery, you can use his play in the NCAA to try and gauge him. Like I said though, if Ricardo Ferreira switches to Canada, he would definitely replace Montgomery.
@devioustrevor I can agree Jahkeele and Jayden would be young but they definitely are talented enough to make 2022. If not 2022, then 2026 when we host it, they could definitely make the team then. However, 2022 they have as good a chance especially if they manage to have great seasons with their respective clubs. Didic however I can definitely see him making 2022, why? Didic has size and he is imposing not just with his height but for a tall player he's pretty agile as a center back which is what Canada needs Waterman is playing for Montreal in the MLS but who else plays on that team? Piette does so I am sure if Piette is there, Waterman will be too especially if he has a great season for Impact in MLS then he will for sure get called up for Gold Cup 2021. If he is, then he will no doubt take part in 2022 qualifying for Canada. But if Ferreira does switch his nationality to play for Canada, he gives us even more depth
Or hell another 23 you can go with for Canada for Gold Cup 21/Qatar 2022 GK- Borjan LB- Bassong CB- Didic CB- Cornelius RB- Brault-Guillard CDM- Piette CDM- Eustaquio LAM- Davies CAM- Arfield (captain) RAM- Osorio CF- Jonathan David Bench GK- Crepeau, Pantemis LB- Adekugbe CB- Miller, James RB- Cordova, Laryea CDM- Okello, Fraser FW- Lucas Cavallini, Cyle Larin, Junior Hoilett
Well, CPL is higher than USL in level of play. That's why Didic & CPL players were called up and not Canadians in USL. Didic already scored for the NT and proved that he can play internationally, he'll be a regular call up. Waterman played great in CPL and his great play in CCL might earn him the starting role. Herdman made clear that how much the player does play matters and where he plays. Montgomery has potential but he needs minutes in MLS or CPL or elsewhere, USL won't cut it for Herdman
