i made this post in the Linzer match thread and i wanted to expand on it in case it came off as me flogging him off. i'm no fan of him but i wouldn't do that. re: him in aerial duels - he has this worrying trend of an arm or elbow in the back and being caught absolutely planted on the ground flat footed when the ball is actually contested. has anyone else noticed this? you can see it: in the Southampton equaliser the Leicester game iirc when the LASK player Andrade hit the crossbar from the loose air ball today vs København when he had an offensive header in half 1 and a few other times this season. it's almost like he doesn't enjoy heading the ball. or at least in certain situations, particularly under pressure which is odd given how much of an advantage he already naturally has. if it isn't that then it's his technique of getting a firm header behind the ball is not there for me. when he does jump it seems like he is still in the middle of the jump by the time he makes contact (slow reactions? weak leap?). this is both offensively and defensively. never seems to power a header like how a Vidić would or any aerially decent CB should
He's very strong in the air defensively: won't argue that. He's no Vidic or JT at the other end though and we can only hope he improves there in time. Because he absolutely should be doing better in that specific area.
Ruud is spot on. You can win a lot of aerial duels and be shit at attacking the ball. That's what he is. He's shit at attacking the ball. He can beat someone to a header when it is a long ball, or intercept a cross, when he's in the way, but he is pathetic at meeting a cross or long ball at the earliest possible point of interception. That's okay, but it kinda sucks that he's the aerial presence in the back line and he can't go and get a cross. Even worse? His insistence on not marking on set pieces and playing zone makes ZERO sense. Our CBs should mark big targets, AWB and Shaw the next 2 big targets and Pogba should be asked to play the RVP role at the near post.
Was arrested in Greece last night apparently; Manchester United confirm they are aware of an alleged incident involving captain Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night. They say contact has been made "and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities". The club say they will be making no further comment #MUFC pic.twitter.com/HLZ88rRPiE— BBC Sport Manchester (@BBCRMsport) August 21, 2020 🇬🇷 Harry Maguire and his friends had a fight with other Englishmen outside a bar in Mykonos Town. When the police intervened to stop the quarrel, three people from a group of Englishmen attacked the ELAS men verbally and using physical violence #muzone [@protothema]— United Zone (@ManUnitedZone_) August 21, 2020
Greek police official on Maguire: "The soccer player was verbally abusive to an officer and then hit him. The three were resisting when brought to the Mykonos police station." #mulive [@ESPNFC, reuters]— utdreport (@utdreport) August 21, 2020
Harry Maguire still in police custody as Manchester United express reluctance at paying the entrie bail fee this summer. They prefer to spread the cost over two years with a series of add-ons.— Si Lloyd (@SmnLlyd5) August 21, 2020
'Attempted bribery": always worth the try, I suppose... Greek court statement on Maguire incident: "A case file was opened against the trio [he and his friends] for the occasional offences of violence against officials - court officials, disobedience, bodily harm, insult and attempted bribery of an employee." #mulive [bbc]— utdreport (@utdreport) August 21, 2020
I'm reserving judgment on this. He could be an idiot, but I wouldn't put it past Greek cops wanting a bribe or defferential treatment and Harry telling them to piss off. I wonder if there's CC TV footage?
These things can be something or nothing - have to wait for the details to come out. Currently those details that are are not looking good. Sounding like he will be formally charged with aggravated assault against a police officer. That is pretty serious and unfortunately the wheels of justice can turn very slowly especially on the islands - we genuinely should look to progress getting a CB pretty quickly. If he gets charged and convicted, then could affect his foreign travel to some countries. If convicted, then losing the captaincy is a given anyway. Doubt the club will do anything like that until the legal process has run its course to avoid sending any wrong signals. Pretty brain-dead behaviour on his part if any of this is true. Though again we need more details before we can properly judge.
Dunno - only going on some of the news stories of British nationals involved in issues sometimes in the “papers” here. As popular destinations, they probably have swift justice for tourists involved in minor stuff. Depends which route this goes I guess. The fact tourist numbers are down owing to covid may actually help for a change.

Plain-clothed cops potentially puts a different slant on it if true. The altercation in Mykonos came to be when two strangers were shouting at Maguire and his friends, who approached the men - violence shortly followed. It is understood that the police officers that intervened were plain-clothed police officers who later performed the arrest— utdreport (@utdreport) August 21, 2020
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...nal-harry-maguire-end-up-in-custody-in-greece Definitely looking forward to get the full story here. But if anything, this is just a reminder that being out in public (at night particularly) when you're an athlete of a certain status, can only lead to trouble. Especially in a place like Mykonos, there are more than enough exclusive (and more private) bars and clubs catered to the rich and famous looking to party. People will always look to try you, whether it's for attention, money or even more nefarious/sinister reasons. You'd think a guy like Mag would know better...
Latest on Maguire... https://www.skysports.com/football/...ged-incident-in-mykonos-say-manchester-united Rival fans shouted "F*** United" towards Harry Maguire and his friends at a bar in Mykonos.
