So, last night, my nephew and I decided to take a walk and experience the storm. Chelsea, our dog hadn't taken her night dump yet so we brought her along. We walked around the block and I noticed what appeared to be a "glow" around the corner in this one house of a very old, sad and demented lady. She calls my wife every now and again and boy, she has some stories. her husband died a few years ago and she's been down hill from there. My wife and a few other neighbors try to help her but she is definitely looney tunes. As we got closer, we noticed it was indeed a fire. My nephew wanted to run in there and see if anyone was here, then we saw the lady sort of "staggering" out side of the house. We figured she was fine and went back home to get my wife, a nurse and to call 911...as neither of us brought phones. We drove back up and the lady was sitting on her porch right in front of the front door with the flames leaping out of the door and heading up to the roof. My nephew grabbed her off the porch and my wife and I noticed that she had barricaded the front door with wood, and other burnable furniture to feed the fire. My wife also told me that two weeks agi, the bank took her house away and she had no where to go. She was wasted and told us that she dropped a cigarette and her cat freaked. There were over 50 firefighters there and like 6 EMT vans. They took her in and went to the hospital as she had minor burns on her head and hands and feet (barefoot). There was no one on the streets...totally deserted and no one was around when we got there in the car the second time. She may have died as we believe foul play was definitely involved. This morning my wife went with one of the neighbors to get her valuables out of there for her daughter that was driving up to collect and found one of the cats dead in a corner. Crazy...
In not exactly related but somewhat interesting news. The place where i was supposed get my tattoo this Thursday blew up last night. Sandy is one mean hurricane!
Love New Order. I still think their early stuff was brilliant before they got too techno in the 90's. They should have quit after Republic. Even Republic and Technique got a bit too "electronic" for me. Side A from Brotherhood, Movement and most of Low Life are my faves...not to mention Temptation and Blue Monday. Great stuff. Disc 2 of Substance is also really good. I actually heard All Day Long really loud with headphones (and a glass of wine) not to long ago - it was one of those "moments".
Saw this post elsewhere on the "The Did you know thread. Uselss, but fascinating trivia, facts and stories" thread. I figured some of my English buddies here might find this analysis fun.
so i'm coming to chicago (and nashville) in a fortnight what do i do and what shall i see fellas? i'm also over for prague (a) and brentford replay so where shall i watch them?!
With regards to the footy, the Chicago supporters group typically watch games at Fado's or AJ Hudson's I believe. This link has the latest. http://www.chelseainamerica.com/web/find-a-club-or-pub No idea about Nashville tbh. I'm sure others here will be able to weigh in. I'll add my own personal thoughts on Chicago later (I travel there 3 times a year give or take and love it), but one initial comment: it's the frigging arctic there this time of the year. Pack thermal undies I'm not even kidding, the wind will kill you if you don't dress triple warm (it's dropping down to -19C this Friday night by way of an example )
Thanks KDB. Looks like i'll have to pick up some cold weather gear before I depart! The Bears are my NFL team Yaroni
Didn't know where to post this; http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c3...orld-largest-yacht-docks-in-new-york-city.cnn
Alright lads, no idea where to post this. I am going to be in Spokane Washington for the FA Cup match. All you Washingtonians have a good spot for me to slip out on Sunday morning and watch the match? Any pubs? Much thanks.
