Super impressive goal and the type of skill from Yanks Abroad we don't see near enough. Bravo to Ian for walking his own, kindof unusual road....

a lot of promising and talented players in the youth ranks never make "the leap" and get better once they turn pro...but, and this seemingly used to happen more often back in the day (I guess maybe because the pool was starting off generally from a lower level generally), some players would invariably get better and sometimes a lot better several years into their careers....significant mid to late career improvement used to be very common in the us pool....

Is this the case here? Is Harkes one of those players who is putting it all together and really improving a lot? Is there a chance he might move to a higher league?

And they scored in the 111th minute to advance, 2-1.

Finished 2-0, and the first goal (Dylan Levitt) was an especially good strike, apparently. Harkes went the full distance.

Conceded a great goal by Aribo in the 76th. I didn't see Harkes involved. Sands on the opposing bench - despite struggling to equalize, Rangers haven't had any problems to which Sands would be the answer while I was watching. Not a bad draw for United given their spot in the table and conceding 29 shots.

Rangers style is attack from any player that is not a CB. And that means they want attacking prowess from their Dual CDMs. As such, I don’t think Sands will get much playing time. His best shot at playing is at CB, especially when they are playing with three. In the long run it might help Sands develop an offensive side to his game but IMO he would have been better off staying as a mainstay in the NYCFC lineup. I think he is going to be getting splinters from riding the bench so often.

Harkes’ Quarter-Final day came to premature end. He was subbed off after 25 minutes of play due to some sort of lower leg muscle injury. I could tell if it has the calf of the hammy. Bummer for him, Big game and a Family Derby with his wife being a Celtic player.
