it started a couple of years back when (*i believe i have this right*) a gay magazine editor (or something to do with a magazine for gays or a tv news anchor) was suppose to be dating a prominent member of the dodgers... i can't remember if this person came out and said that or not (might have been the case)... but it was never found out who it was, if it was true common public sentiment on the issue has always been that it was piazza only one baseball player has ever come out of the closet during his playing days... basically blacklisted out of baseball... actually i think i have it now... the news guy and the magazine guy were going out together, but then they split up and the news guy (who remained unknown) was said to be seeing a prominent player on the dodgers by the magazine dude
If it's a prominent member of the Dodgers, then it's no longer Piazza, since he plays for the Mets. He's been a Met for quite a while now. If I'm not mistaken, the gay editor and Mike Piazza are two separate stories. FWIW, here's the "Letter From the Editor" from last May where Brendan Lemon, editor of Out makes the revelation: http://espn.go.com/page2/s/outletter/010523.html (Given the name of the magazine, you'd think Lemon would just, you know, out the baseball player in question ) "For the past year and a half, I have been having an affair with a pro baseball player from a major-league East Coast franchise, not his team's biggest star, but a very recognizable media figure all the same."
It wasn't the Dodgers. It was a Prominent New York Baseball Player. Speculation at the time it was either Piazza or Chuck Knoblauch. The Writer was working for a Gay mag and wrote about his partners problem with disclosing his sexuality.
no, it came out back when he was on the dodgers... the story is a few years old it just keeps popping back up from time to time
