I was in manhattan the other day and saw a huge billboard on 34 street with Landon Donovan, Damarcus Beasley and eddie johnson standing with the usa jersey on and a soccer ball and underneath it said something to the effect of "The World No Longer Wants to Play Us"
Hey that a very cool...I hope the federation get more imaginative and promote the sport in a better fashion....
I've seen the billboard you mentioned and it was definitely NOT paid for by the USSF. Nike, my friends, are the sponsers of said advert.
fifa does: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/photos/index.html?i=4&d=1 and to Nike I'd say that of course the world doesn't want to play us, especially if we insist on using that crazy half gold Joga Bonita ball. the official ball is from adidas, and I'm sure the world will be happy to play us if we agree to play with that new thing (like MLS is doing).
no one is looking at it except maybe the dude who's back of the head we can see, and its kinda tilted upwards, although it looks like he's drinnking coffee
It looks like he is taking a picture of the billboard with his camera phone. Two New Yorkers taking a picture of a billboard featuring soccer players: I call that progress. I read in one of the online papers yesterday that there is a similar billboard in San Francisco. Where are the pictures of that billboard?
Can anyone tell me which is the cross street for this intersection with 34th street? I'm myself not in New York. But someone I know in New York asked me about it. They don't have their own car, so I didn't want to ask them to walk up and down 34th street hopelessly looking around at all billboards. Thanks.
Here is the address of FootAction, according to Yahoo!Yellow Pages 430 7th Ave, New York, NY 10001 Disclaimer: I'm also not in NYC Edit: Oops, there is a FootAction USA at this address, about a block away: 112 W 34th St. New York, NY 10120
Haha!! Great detective work, should have thought of that. So 34th street and 7th Ave it is then. Positive rep to you, sir!! Well, I think that much accuracy is good enough. They can walk around a block. Actually, even the second address maps to intersection of 34th street and 7th avenue anyway. Thanks!
Reminds me of when I was in Rotterdam just prior to Euro 2000. Edgar Davids had the side of a skyscraper all to himself.
And Zidane in Marsilles for France 1998. There was an entire building plastered with him as you looked at the city from the Mediterranean.
I want to thank NIKE for putting that billboard up i think they know that thers'a hugepotential market. GOing back to an earlier post why would they have an addias ball at their feet when its a NIKE ad? what's wrong awith a JOGA BONITA ball
ok i'm new here how do you activate teh freaking quick reply thnk you adn why cna't i post new threads?
Well considering all those people are walking away from the billboard it seems kinda natural they wouldnt have their heads cranked back 180. Its on west 34th street in Manhatten, only times square sees more traffic on a given day. Its right near Madison Square Garden, NY Penn Station, Macy's and the midtown shopping district.
Nike changed the billboard. they have a bunch of USA players in the background and the word "BEWARE" in front of them and the date 06-09-06 underneath that. (start of the world cup) Pretty cool billboard. I guess Nike owns that billboard.
