great time for the equipment sale...i can try my best to rearrange my schedule for weekday games, i can almost always do that...but to go down to rfk to buy stuff...thats asking a lot plus the only stuff that might be xl is probably ezra
Las Barracudas are awaiting the news. Will something be surfacing soon. McOwen should be at the equipment sale hopefully. What's up amigos?
i know i'm going to get spanked by Barra elders for jumping in with this ;-) but here it goes, reposting without Paul's permission: Standing on line for the DC United equipment sale, we learned that -- The biggest news: Sometime today, the team is going to announce that it appears that the SE's sideline seating is going to be preserved, and that the "bouncing seats" will be kept in a retractable form on rail tracks so that they can be taken in and out depending on whether the game being played is boreball or soccer. The stadium authority has not finalized this, they are still testing the equipment involved, but they HAVE authorized the team to notify its plan-holders. HOOOORAAAYYYYYY!!!! -- OTOH, almost all of the endline seating is going to be lost. La Norte will have to relocate. There will still be some spectator priced seating in the corners. In addition, they are going to create spectator seating at the OTHER end of the field (between Barra Brava and the family section) -- Hopefully tomorrow there will be an announcement about Christian Gomez' contract. Christian was there, incidentally, he signed the jersey I bought for son Joe... -- Speaking of players, the response to question of Ryan Nelsen seemed to leave open a real possibility that he might be back. Hope so, I have outfitted myself head to toe with Nelsen game-worn jersey, shorts and socks.... -- My question about which former player was going to grace next year's season tickets was met with a laugh. They are thinking of a shot of a player holding the trophy. -- The black jersey will be back next year, but the white away jersey will be different. They will be playing away with white jersey, black short, white socks. -- The entire league will be pushing the fact that next season is the tenth. ALL team will have a 10th year patch on their jerseys. DC, though, is going to be playing up the impending 10th anniversary of our first Cup. For 2006, there is likely to be some sort of ceremony to honor the original '96 team, someone asked about a game between '96 team and some opposition. -- there was something said about plans still in the works for the new stadium. ALL I heard was, the District will be involved somehow but this is to be the team's deal, either AEG or whomever. Perhaps those standing further back in line can provide more specifics .... I was trying to get some work done at that point :-( Paul Alan Levy
I actually told Stephen as he was talking to people that I couldn't believe he was letting "our" secret out when we had been so good about keeping it
First he has to find a team that will play him... But yeah I thought the same thing after I digested it But on the upside (for me) I won't be standing on temp bleachers for my first season in the Barra -dave
apparently he couldn't keep it. btw--i think everyone ought to give stephen a note of thanks (once the email is sent from dcu)--i've heard the inside story (not from stephen, he's too modest) about his battles over this and other stadium stuff now. apparently he is having to fight his ass off with these guys. he really went to war over this and won. szack@dcunited.com
So will La Norte become El Sur for the meantime? It just means Johnny Walker has to deal with a different end now.
Dear D.C. United Planholder, We would like to update all of our loyal fans with the most recent information from the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission with regard to Major League Baseball coming to RFK Stadium next April and how this will affect the seating areas for D.C. United matches. While details on the exact seating manifest have not yet been completely finalized, we now have a better idea of which sections will be affected by this new baseball/soccer configuration at RFK. Based on recent conversations with the Sports Commission, it is expected that we will retain the majority of our sideline seating. The old rail-based system originally installed at RFK that supports the stands opposite the team benches (East side of the stadium) is going to be re-activated to once again make that part of the stadium movable, and capable of being re-positioned from a baseball configuration to a soccer configuration in a relatively short turnaround time. The re-activation of that rail system will allow D.C. United to continue to offer prime sideline seating to our fans. The use of the rail system however will mean the loss of a sizeable number of seats behind the North goal. Additionally there will be some smaller areas affected by other conversion issues. We will be contacting planholders directly regarding these affected areas to arrange for alternative seating for the 2005 season. Again, this is preliminary information with exact details expected from the Sports Commission over the next few weeks. We will send out another notice with final definitive information as soon as details are confirmed and we will contact you directly if your seats are in affected areas. Additionally, we continue to meet with the Sports Commission and the stadium project managers to determine a final solution for converting the baseball infield for our matches. We will pass on information related to these plans as they come further into focus. We hope to make these next couple of seasons with our co-tenants, the Washington Nationals, as pleasurable as possible for our fans. We value your continued support and looked forward to seeing you again at RFK Stadium in 2005. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns regarding the baseball/soccer seating issue and we will help to answer them accordingly. Thank you.
They are waiting on the Gomez extension news to coincide directly with my official signing. 2:00 PM tomorrow, RFK stadium.
That's what I was thinking. I don't speak Spanish; what's Spanish for "south"? (not that our brothers in La Norte should change their name -- not at all. Maybe if La Norte continue to grow, this is an opportunity to be able to terrorize opposing keepers behind both goals once we move into a mythical SSS.)
El Sur. I always thought it would be cool if there had been one section of stands behind the south goal that La Norte was allowed to occupy when the other team was down there. Can you imagine how many times Johnny Walker would get "burned" if he had to deal with them for 2 halves?
