There is a painful amount of time that passes between a game and the posting of analysis, interviews or pictures on the HPI website. In fact when they get around to updating it another game has usually been played.

While I appreciate the effort the boys are making at HPI to give us inside information and things we cannot get at the official website; what good is the information if it is yesterday's or last week's news? Are you guys so overloaded that you cannot update the information or is it a website problem?

I don't believe I've met anyone from HPI. Not sure if I've even read it. However, speaking for them, I'm sure you'd be welcome to step up to the plate any time you pleased.

....something about a gift horse and a teeth....

agreed. their writings are very high quality. it's worth the wait. if they are a bit slow for your taste, write your Congressman.

besides, the HPI people have real jobs.

Agreed again. The folks who run HPI have real lives. In a season like this, updating the site is probably more like a chore than the pleasure it would be if we were in first.

I know all of them and can honestly say they are lazy, inept and, quite frankly, stupid. Realest Crew Fan? My ass. Mod of God? Hah!

The thing I don't get isn't that we only have one fan-operated website and that it seems to be taking a rest or whatever, but rather that there's only one of them.

Some of the other teams have six, eight, ten fansites, some good, some awful, some are true blogs and some are - well who can say WHAT the hell they are.

Maybe crewfan.com morphing into MN took some of the impetus away in te early days, or maybe Crew fans are just lazyassed slugs. I dunno.

There were a few in the beginning - a Brian McBride site, that hilarious hooligan-type thing "all I got was citywide damage" (I loved that but way too many morons found it and thought it was serious), maybe some others.

Does Chelsey still have a Crew blog? Is Fake Sigi still around?

All in all, fairly slim pickings, comparatively.

I thought about doing a Crew fan site and a Crew section at my vanity web site. I have enough trouble keeping my blogs current. Bigsoccer is good enough for me.

I think someone has a Crew blog.

And yeah, folks have jobs and lives. Write a column or enjoy the beautiful weather? Hmm... Compile stats or watch porn? Hmm...

Besides. This is the Crew, not Paris Hilton or Britany Spears. Do we really want fans writing about how their every minute, what they wore, what their dog wore, when they woke up, what they binge/purged ...

there is also the fantasy manager blog... I'd have to dig up the link, but I went there a few times in April, but probably haven't been there since. Basically a guy rolling out the team in manager mode for FIFA07, doing post game reports and interviews and such... kind of a fun concept just for kicks.

oh, and don't forget their is the Local 103 site, which doesn't really provide a news outlet like HPI, but I'm not sure what qualifies as for what Bill's looking for.

I write one, but be gentle.

Now that it's summer I have a little more time on my hands and can be more dedicated about updating.

I just want an rss feed on HPI because I get tired of constantly checking for new content. (nudges fidler)

As for crew news, I posted this before but I consolidated a bunch of Columbus Crew news feeds into one page/feed if you don't want to look all over for stuff. I've been wanting to add HPI to what is currently ESPNsoccernet, FoxSports.com, MLSnet(thecrew.com) The Dispatch & YahooSports.

Additionally I've started a soccer blog if anyone is bored, not just Crew though. Mike (nuthouse4life) has started writing USMNT coverage on it from DC.

That was my site. I learned HTML making that thing. It's gotta be 10 years old.

I just checked and it's still there. It's ridiculous. I'm going to leave it there.

It's not a website problem....more of a "real life" problem. Don't get me wrong, some of it is disoranization on our part, and I'll be the first to admit even as things are, we can probably do better.

But the truth is that we're all getting older, and have more "grown up" responsibilities. This type of second job was a lot easier at, say, 25 than 32. For example, I have a job that periodically requires massive investments of my time. I am hopefully on the tail end of one of those periods right now. But I had no prayer of writing a notebook for the Houston game....in fact, I only got there halfway through the first half, and had already comitted to 12 hour days on Monday and Tuesday....not much time for writing there. And tonight I didn't even make it due to a late meeting. (And an family trip that commences in the early morning of July 1 makes a RBNY notebook doubtful and a wedding will cause me to miss the RSL game. Quite a streak, eh?)

But it's not just me, it's all of us....Fid works long hours and travels for his job....Walt has to find a way to weasel out of the office for a few hours on Thursday mornings to do his practice report, and that's sometimes easier said than done. Bernhardt has a family now. Montri drives down from Michigan. Etc etc etc.

So that's the sob story, but you still have a valid point because in addition to "real life", part of the problem is that we are the disorganized mess that Lee Smith told me we'd be. Haha. So some of it does indeed come back on us.

Thanks for reading and thanks for giving enough of a shit to call us out.

When MN folded up shop, I considered making the notebook a blog and just doing my own thing. That would have been the easiest thing to do, but the more I thought about it, the more flustered I became that there was nothing else out there. To me, it seemed more important to work with the guys to give it a go with a full site.

Here's an excerpt of an email I sent to Fid and company when trying to get everyone together at HPI....

    --------------
But anyway, my point is that for as long as I have been following the Crew, there has always been SOMETHING out there. (And more often than not, it had Matt Bernhardt lurking in the periphery.)

Part of me is pissed that it's 2007 and these damn kids with their hula hoops and their Dan Fogelberg records and their Pac-Man video games haven't picked up the slack, but nevertheless, if we fade away, Crew coverage will consist of Shawn Mitchell at home games and the occasional Ives Galarcep article about the Crew giving Danny Szetela to New York for pennies on the bratwurst. And that's it.
    ---------------

I really wish there was more out there, so I am glad to see people are now popping up with these new blogs. Hopefully there will be some interesting stuff. The more the merrier.

As for Fake Sigi, I wish he'd be a little more regular. I was dying to hear Fake Sigi's explanation of the three-hour meeting. And that makes me Fake Sigi's jcrocker.

Eggy has always had a sort of love/hate relationship with that site.

The former because it's actually fairly well done (for 2000 or whenever) clever and creative; the latter because back in the day (I think it was the Truman administration) about once every six months some deranged geek soccer fan would stumble across it - how, one can only imagine - and would come storming into this forum with a whole bunch of "Oh, so you gus think you're tough guy hooligans, eh? Well ROFL, my BFF Jill...no wait, that came later....anyway, dimwitted losers would completely miss the point and some kind soul like me would have to sit them down and give them a kind, freindly explanantion of the word "satire"

The page itself used to get a hilarious number of hits from overseas and invitations to street fight various European ultra groups who wanted to prove Americans were poofs or something. Pretty hysterical.

Anyway, I knew Eggy had done it but this is absolutely the first time I've ever seen him admit it in public.

As for a link, I do have one someplace, I'm sure, but if Eggy wants it out there he'll provide it and if he doesn't it would be wrong of me to do so. Not mine.

    I do have a graphic I saved I don't think he'd mind though:

But if you're loooking for something old, arcane and embarassing, I RECOMMEND THIS.

I'm certain it's not Matt Bernhardt's proudest achievement in coding either, but like the other one, for 1999 it's not bad at all.

Thanks for the memories Bill. I cannot believe it has been over 10 years of Crew history. A lot has changed, especially styles, some of those pictures were hard to look at..
