I hope this isn't another gov't secret. Does anybody know? What do other countries pay? Like Jamaica or Mexico?
This is from US Soccer during the contract talks, outlining the contracts from each side and comparing it to the previous contract. It gives a monetary value based on each type of game (qualifier, friendly, WC games, etc). It's the only item I've ever seen showing player compensation for the national team. Hope it helps. Amy
I thought it said $3400.00 win bonus on top of $2000 per game! No wonder our guys almost never lose. They be singin: "top coat, top hat I don't worry cuz my wallets fat..."
For those who didn't feel like doing math, I figured I'd do it for them. At World Cup '02, the players who appeared in all 5 matches (Friedal, Pope, Sanneh, JOB, LD, BMB), under the 1999-2002 contract, received $183,152 plus their cut of $100,000 points bonus which I'm not sure how is divided or what it really even is. Under the proposed US Soccer contract, if the US makes the same run in Germany, players who appear in all the games will receive $222,173 plus their cut of the aforementioned points bonus. Under the proposed Player's Association contract, players who appear in all the games will receive $305,434. A nice take no matter how you slice it. Here are some more links that prove a comparison between different countries: Robert Wagman on other WC '02 team compensations WWC '99 US team compensation (second segment) England WC '02 Amy
