It is always helpful for players, coaches, and even fans to speak several languages. It helps people to get into the game and be able to talk to worldwide fans and players in several languages. I am fluent in English and Turkish. And I am currently studying Spanish.

I only know English. I want my grandfather to teach me German (he's a German immigrant) but his hearing is so bad and he speaks so poorly now I wouldn't be able to learn from him. I need to learn to speak Spanish but I have nobody around who speaks it also to help teach me. I went through my high school Spanish class without doing a damn thing. I still got an A, but I wished I would have paid attention and learned something instead of never handing in homework and just crumpling up tests when I was handed on and throwing it in the trash.
-English (mother tongue) -French (took it through high school) -German (taking intermediate level (2nd year) German @ University) -Spanish (Honours BA in Spanish in progress) -I took a year of Biblical Hebrew here at WLU (not a very useful endeavor)
We still don't have anybody that speaks Ebonics or Spanglish, I understand them but I'm not good speaking them or writing them.

I'm from Texas, actually. But my parents are Taiwanese. Interestingly, I've managed to pick up a very odd accent when I speak Chinese... distinctly not "foreign", but everyone who hears me speak Chinese assumes I'm from some part of China that they're not from. The best that anyone's placed it, it's a weird cross between a Beijing accent, a Shanghai accent, and a Fujien accent, even though I've never met anyone from Shanghai, and 75% of the people I've actually spoken to in Chinese are from Taiwan.
Fluent: English Intermediate level: Portuguese (studying for over a year, went to Brasil in August; also helps that my best friend is my professor) Passable, but fading: Spanish (watching Liga Mexicana games and 100 Mexicanos Dijeron helps, but my bro is totally fluent and his girlfriend is from Puerto Rico)
Thats a very interesting accent!! Most kids with Taiwanese parents pick up a pretty distinct Taiwanese accent. (saying si instead of shi!!!) Well Taiwanese people make fun of everyone else's accent. I learned/use the Beijing accent (Beijinghua) myself, or try to anyway. Do you read/write Hanzi? I am around 1,300 characters right now. Not too good, but hope to keep on improving as time goes by. Some say my accent is good, some say it sucks, some say it is pretty good for a Japanese Brazilian!!!!
I learned English and Spanish at the same time. Since i was a baby. I was in Mexico but went to an English speaking school so I was spoke english and spanish. dont have an accent in either language other than the region i prevail from. But if you were to speak to me in Spanish you would assume I was from the central part of Mexico. If you were hear me speak english, kind of a houston accent. I studied Latin 3.5 years so I understand it and read it, but dont speak it. my folks moved to China so i pratice mandarin and getting better at it. They gave me some books and the compnay gave me a manual of common everyday phrase of how to get around. My folks have been in CHina for about a year now i understand almost everything that is being said when i hear Italian and Portugese. *English & Spanish (read, write, speak, understand) *Latin, Portugese & Italian (read, understand) *Mandarin (basic)
