What tie-breaker will they use if the Fire lose to the Revs this weekend? What's the season series stand at?

If NE wins they win the season series. So they advance.

It's quite simple; no points in Foxboro, season over.

We kick their ass on Saturday and we advance. End of Story! I wonder if Herron will pull an Ante on Jay Heaps at the end of this game?? Ante was the Tonya Harding in that Incident two years ago. Maybe Herron can pull a whack job on Taylor Twellman early in the game. Or we can have Taylor star in a Damani Ralph porno called "Melting the White Chocolate!" You know who would have grass stains on their knees in that on field brawl.

    Forget Twellman and Heron.

The tie-breaker would be a steel cage deathmatch between Shalrie Joseph and Zack Thornton.

Uh, it's not quite THAT simple. A tie would give them points, right? Would they still advance? No.

The Fire need to win. Period. They loose on goal differential if there is a tie.

I need to remember, think(or read the standings) before you post. The one time I try to be snide, it bites me in the a$$. Serves me right.

Sorry, my bad. Please, flog for as long as you like. I forgot that NE lost this weekend. I was still going on the assumption I had after Wednesday's loss to Cbus.

There won't be a points tie unless NE wins the match.

And points differential is not the first tie-breaker.

Like the man said, if the Fire don't get some points in Foxboro, season over. Period. End of discussion. End of season.

Close but no cigar. We have three more points, so if we tie this next game we will end the season 3 points ahead because well, I don't want to ruin the suprise you figure it out. Any way if we lose we finish even on points but NE has the tiebreakers on us so win or tie and we're in.

edit: I see some others noticed this as well. We must fix this redundancy, my post was funnier so I'll just wait until you guys delete your more factual yet less funny versions.

    No way Zach loses that.

I almost wish NE had won last Saturday. That would have pulled them even, and would have forced the Fire to win next week. Now, they have a whole week to sit and think "all we have to do is tie the game and we're in." Yet, NE now has an opportunity to steal a win on the road, and be in the playoffs due to tiebreakers. It's the one thing I don't like about the possibility of ending in a tie. I'd rather have to win than only need to tie.

Just for the record, the tie-breaker would be head-to-head matchup. Though, if a tie-breaker were needed, that would mean that New England won the game. So, that would mean that the Revolution would win the season series, 2-1-1.
Everyone is right by saying the Fire need at least one point to advance, I just thought the originator of this thread might like to know the MLS rule on it.

If NE wins: The Fire is out.
If Chicago wins or ties: The Fire is in.

Btw, my crystal ball tells me NE wins 1:0 ...by penalty kick.
:) my crystal ball also tells me I'm gonna be bashed in a few minutes.

I've had the same thought a couple of times sinc Sat. night. The Fire have to go in with the mindset that only a win will get them into the playoffs. A tie is not an option, and Dave cannot let them even think in terms like that.

I agree that we need to go in thinking "win," but I'm glad we still have the lee-way. Ideal situation is for us to be up going in to the last few minutes, so that a late, desperation goal for them will be an equalizer, not a winner. I think (hope) the Fire realize this. Judging by the attitude they had in Columbus, I think we'll be in good shape. Let's go crush these bastards.

Just one thing: "steal a win on the road?" NE will be at home...

If he bought a ticket for this match hoping to see it at Soldier Field, he's hosed.

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. Old timer's disease I guess. Otherwise known as geezermania.
