I gotta take issue with this “champions” stuff. They won a tournament yes, but are we gonna raise a banner for a preseason tournament? Does any college hoops team call themselves “champions” for winning the Maui Invitational Tournament at Thanksgiving? somewhere along the way the Dash has decided to morph the Utah tournament into some season playoff championship thing Final MATCHDAY of 2020 for our Champions @HoustonDash!!!🆚 @ORLPride ⏰ 4:00PM📺 @CBSSports Opportunity to finish 1st Place in the #nwslfallseries! 🔥🔥🔥 #HoldItDown #DejaloTodo #DashTFOn #WeAreTheSurge⚡️ pic.twitter.com/E00P88r8Ca— The Surge SG (@TheSurgeSG) October 9, 2020

The NWSL commissioner definitely subscribes to the Dynamo FO practice in providing certain figures but not others that show no context. Up 493% but no mention of actual or baseline figures and most of that is up due to a few games being on CBS which anyone who knows a moderate amount about TV ratings knows there is a minimum or “floor” amount of viewers picked up for any major network on free TV at any given time. A better comparison would be how the NWSL did compared to normal CBS programming in those time slots (which I think was about the same or maybe less than the rodeo that aired the prior weekend). Of course, you can only use this stat the first year since next year there will be true year over year comparisons. the pro lacrosse league that NBC threw on a few times can probably say the same thing. 1316920276551147521 is not a valid tweet id

so the Dash have still yet to qualify or play a playoff game, correct? And yet the FO will probably try to raise a championship banner
The NWSL has announced a plan for 2021. https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/article/nwsl-announces-innovative-2021-competition-framework They will have another tournament in the spring and then a regular season starting in May. The 6-team playoffs are scheduled to start in November. There should be 10 teams in the league in 2021 with Racing Louisville joining. Angel City FC in LA is set to join in 2022.
Well I guess when you force people out for social justice or PC reasons, sometimes it may not always work out the way you want it to With the future uncertain in Utah for the Royals, there's a potential ownership group looking to bring the #NWSL back to Kansas City.Reporting with @PaulTenorio at @TheAthleticSCCR https://t.co/8by17ZUgtI— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) November 24, 2020
so you’re saying the “leftist” women’s soccer supporters would have given money to a guy that suggested a rival player be lynched and casually threw around the n word? I feel like most fans would completely accept losing the team if that were the deal
Yup, he provides the site for the Challenge Cup (which none of the leftist blue states would have allowed), they don’t like his politics and language and in the rush to force him out in the middle of economic uncertainty, they don’t have a buyer for the team and may lose it. Instead of an orderly situation, MLS and NWSL folks forced him out rapidly and now are scrambling. Same woke media types don’t realize virus doom hype has cost all of these sports and will continue to cost them on 2021
idk seems like just rewards for working with that kind of individual in the first place. Also comparing racial slurs to “politics and language” seems like telling on yourself a bit
Well, this started it all, he didn’t cave to some fake woke narrative: https://www.sltrib.com/sports/rsl/2020/08/27/rsl-owner-dell-loy-hansen/ look, these things have consequences
Utah Royals moving to KC. NWSL so woke to force out the owner they are moving the club that drew 10,700 per game in 2019 (2nd in league) and had 17% of the total league attendance back to a city where they averaged 1,788 per game in 2017.
I love women’s soccer fans, so stable and grounded Fuck Dell Loy Hansen, for real. Fuck Sporting KC for not supporting FCKC from the start. #NWSL— Rachel (she/her) (@RachTalksSoccer) December 6, 2020
you seem to contradict yourself a bit. You talk about how all woso fans are radical leftists but criticize the league for forcing out an owner that suggested a rival player be lynched and casually threw around the N-word on the basis of business?
so woke they cut of their nose to spite their face - cancel culture uproar without a solid backup plan in place so now they have to move out of a solid market for them. Immediate “justice” was so important they screwed themselves
It seems to me that the women’s soccer fans in this country deeply overrate how popular their sport is (I said “their sport”, not just the women’s national team at the World Cup or Olympics, two events that draw viewers out of national pride not women’s soccer). If the sport was so healthy and as popular as they claim (mostly due to social media statistics amped up by underemployed woke losers), do you really think they couldn’t find a buyer in a market that was one of the few that drew fans well? but let’s blame a “racist” owner for its failure https://deadspin.com/racist-dirtbag-costs-utah-fans-their-nwsl-team-1845820009
Just adding on - if the NWSL is in such a great spot, why didn’t the rest of the owners in the league step up and fund running the team for 2021 in a market that has their second best attendance? Stunned that they wouldn’t keep alive arguably their second best market
that’s a possibility, but the Utah NWSL doesn’t have the history of the Cleveland Browns (NFL did that) and the stadium situation probably won’t be better with a new RSL owner controlling the stadium.
From this and other articles it sounds like technically KC is expansion and Utah could be resurrected in 2 years. Odd https://www.sltrib.com/sports/rsl/2020/12/07/utah-royals-sale-is-done/
Apparently this person runs a Dash podcast FYI. Interesting what tweets and replies show up when you look for NWSL news As a white woman, I have never been afraid of the police until George Floyd was murdered and peaceful protests around the country turned violent because of cops who systematically promote violence and fail to deescilate. THAT is white privilege. ACAB until they prove otherwise!— Hayley Snider, MPH (@HayleySnider2) June 5, 2020
Final Utah NWSL comment - posted that one reason they are moving is that the team was bleeding money which seems hard to believe if they actually draw 10k paid attendance and that none of the prospective buyers of the MLS team wanted it. Something doesn’t jive with narratives here if the team that drew 16% of total fans in NWSL to games in a market where the owner owns the stadium can’t make money. Or maybe when the USWNT subsidy goes away as expected then the teams can’t make money. Something doesn’t add up and just blaming a “racist” owner for everything doesn’t pass the smell test
