And here we go! Look at those red jerseys, the new jersey seems slimming on Shaqiri! Looks like a great crowd but no 300 level.
According to the match lineups on the website, the Fire playing a 3-4-2-1? Acosta does seem to be playing more in a midfield position. I am fine with that.
25 minutes in and not much has happened. Edit: 30 minutes in and not much has happened. There still does not seem like any cohesion to the attack.
I wish the Fire would stop dropping back on defense and start closing people down. They are playing 5 in the back so there is no reason that one of the midfielders cannot close down on the ball.
PENALTY for the Fire. A poor decision on the ball by Gutierrez turns into a penalty. Probably the right call, though. (He should not have tried to dribble towards two defenders. The Cincinnati players being whiny poopy babies. Shaqiri to take the penalty. Consider those stats "Padded"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tie match
We have a game again. The officiating crew may be lower level, but not the VAR. A gift, but I'll take it.
Acosta doing a pretty decent impersonation of Gimenez, knocking the ball from outside the box straight into the stands.
Yeah that peno call was odd. I mean the Cincy defenders had Guti in a bind but the dude stomped his ankle/foot/shin/whatever and naturally Guti was colliding and getting stomped and had no where to go. Normally he gets fouled like that all last season and never gets that call. Maybe having more of a name as a creative force will get him some whistles?
Was there a SIREN at the match? I never heard one on the Apple TV. Also I'm listening to the WLS feed.
The Fire of the past several years, including matches 1 and 2 this season, are one of the sloppiest, most timid teams imaginable. There is no cohesion in attack. Hell, there is almost no attack. It just seems like seat of the pants type of 'throw a couple of guys up top and, well, that's about it. Even the penalty came out of the fact that there was nobody up top with Gutierrez so he decided to dribble at two defenders, who stupidly fouled him at the edge of the box. We have two of the top paid attacking players in the league and we are seeing almost nothing in attack. It has been so frustrating to see.
Nobody on the Fire can complete a friggin' pass going forward. Nobody on the Fire can even keep possession of the ball.
Five minutes to go: Not even a minimal attempt to get Cuypers into the match. Shaqiri barely visible. Now, he is out, replaced by Mueller. Gutierrez making a series of poor decisions. Herbers playing back and forth, all over, but not really anywhere. Acosta was pretty gassed out there. MHS playing barely above okay. They are just bad at the moment. The ONLY shot on goal was the penalty. I don't see much out of this team so far. I know it's early in the season, but I expect to see a bit of attacking soccer. So far? Virtually nothing.
