This is an absolute must-read from Simon Kuper: http://news.ft.com/cms/s/87e8256e-cbcc-11da-a7bf-0000779e2340.html
Enjoyed reading the article. I may be in the minority, but I'm glad that "the switch" never occurred. No doubt, it would be great if the original JR Trophy was to be discovered in any way possible. But overriding this feeling for me are the films and photos I've seen of Carlos Alberto and the 1970 Brazilian side looking at and kissing that trophy with such joy and excitement after they had given their blood and sweat to claim that bad boy. To ultimately find out that, in fact, that cherished trophy was not what they believed it was and was a forgery would be a very cruel twist of realization. Better that Brasil 1970 held that golden statuette and that it would eventually be lost than to find out that Pele and his teammates were parading a bronze replica and the original trophy survived. But that's just MY opinion.
