No that is incorrect. Sporting Clube de Portugal originally played in a Half Green - Half White shirt, and black shorts and socks (This kit is still commonly used as an alternate today). In the 1930s the team was tourning France and they saw some Rugby teams with Hooped Jersies, and the Club decided to change the home jersey to hoops in order to have a more unique jersey and they liked the way it looked. Since then the Clubs traditional kit has been Green and White hooped shirt, Black Shorts, and Green and white hooped Socks. Sometimes they change to white shorts instead of Black. This is the story given by the club.
