With the annoying 6-week break for the SWC (Sports-washing World Cup), I figure we need a place to discuss team and current player news and notes (not related to SWC) until the match thread for Boxing Day is posted. Suffice to say, there isn’t much to complain about from our performance so far, other than to worry what the long break will do to our form and continuity the rest of the season. Hard to recognize a single “top performer” so far this season, but perhaps this the place to dole out some awards if y’all feel that’s appropriate. One interesting stat I just read on F365: The Arsenal have trailed less than an hour so far the entire season, and trailed in only two games (H-Fulham, A-ManU). If we continue in this area alone, I really like our chances to maintain this level of success.
I previously posted about this in the Random thread but maybe this is a more appropriate place now... https://www.arsenal.com/news/arsenal-set-dubai-super-cup-during-world-cup Thursday, December 8: Arsenal vs Lyon – 19:30 KO (local time) Tuesday 13 December: Arsenal vs AC Milan – 18:00 KO (local time) At some point we'll find out if there's any way to watch a stream... and without paying through the teeth??
https://www.espn.com/soccer/english...er-league-managers-handle-midseason-world-cup That's a strange ritual for watching the World Cup but you do you Mikel
Hoping our players teams get knocked out early so Martinelli, Jesus and especially Partey don't get injured and come back in good knick.
grades so far for our boys: A+ Bukayo Saka scored twice and came off after 70mins. Confident and healthy too!! B Matt Turner had a few solid saves, and got his hands to Bale's powerful PK, but it wasn't enough. Also a few nervy plays including not catching a ball that hit him in both hands in traffic, and whatever that coming out debacle was in the final minute. N/A Aaron Ramsdale did not feature, and I don't think Pickford did anything to lose himself the starting job. Aaron may come back to Arsenal well rested and hungry.
Alex scott a women who has just come out and now is in a country where she she can be killed or imprisoned for being part of the community is wearing the one love armband, brave and powerful stuff from her pic.twitter.com/1f2RYvtpDg— A🦋 (@Ava_wfc) November 21, 2022
Proud of Alex. Always had a bit of soft spot for her. Also wondering why the captains who supposedly caved to wearing this armband did that. Why not just do it, make the strong statement and call FIFA's bluff about getting a yellow card as punishment? Yeah, I know a yellow card could be a very risky business for a vital captain who might then get suspended for a 2nd yellow. Maybe after seeing someone like Alex do this (granted she won't be receiving a yellow card) the captains might reconsider? At least if you're on a team where you're all but eliminated, you could take the chance of wearing it in the 3rd group game? But personally I'd like to see stronger pushback against FIFA and Qatar.
FIFA rules don't say anywhere that you can get a yellow card for wearing an armband. It was just a bullshit threat from FIFA and I would have called them out on it.
The only thing FIFA could do is threaten to dock points for bringing the game into disrepute. Could you imagine them docking the Netherlands, Germany, England etc points? Those teams win all their group matches, but they miss qualifying for the next round and the best players aren't playing. That would have been a mess and should have been the route they took. FIFA also pressuring one of the teams, might be Belgium or Netherlands, to remove the word LOVE off their away kit.
It’s Belgium. And FIFA did force them to remove the word “love” that was printed **inside** their kit…not even visible to anyone.
It's amazing how 2 organizations who very much want to be looked on favorably as a result of this tournament, are managing to do such a good job of producing exactly the opposite, in quite a few ways.
interesting. i guess patino is joining up with our squad for camp during the break? Charlie Patino has arrived in Spain 🇪🇸 pic.twitter.com/6STvQpFvbI— Arsenal Loan Watch (check pinned) (@arsenal_loans) November 23, 2022
Not sure which thread is best for this... What is Tomiyasu's status? I know he came on for Japan as 2T sub and supposedly made a difference in their win over Germany. Does anyone know if his minutes were limited because of fitness? Also have they said or alluded to how close his recovery is to 100%?
Hard to tell no one has said anything, but we will know if it was rotation or tactics if he starts the next match for Japan.
man is dedicated. it don't get much more arsenalDNA than this. Takehiro Tomiyasu did not train this Thursday and is doubtful for the match against Costa Rica. [@japaofcbr] #afc pic.twitter.com/QyTcByhMTT— DailyAFC (@DailyAFC) November 25, 2022 Tomiyasu felt discomfort in the back of his right thigh again and will be reassessed in the next hours. #afc— DailyAFC (@DailyAFC) November 25, 2022
Ugh, that was what I was worrying/assuming. We might not be seeing him in an Arsenal shirt in a month's time when league resumes. Pray I'm wrong.
I think it was GunnerBlog who said today that Tomi is training apart from the Japan team, which if true, doesn't seem to indicate someone who is anywhere near match fit. Just adds to my growing sense of pessimism about his being a big, regular part of our XI going forward.
Tomi didn’t start today. On the bench ATM. Anyone heard anything about his recovery status? Maybe he’ll be a 2T sub, which I think he might’ve been on GD1?? Edit: yup he came on as a 70’ sub.
a few highlights from our friendly against watford with many of the first teamers participating in the first half.
the prediction appears to be 3 months. Gabriel Jesus three months out. Will need to have surgery on his knee. He’s flying to London on Sunday 3pm to begin his recovery. Really bad news https://t.co/DuDDcDN29n— Renato (@rehnato) December 3, 2022
