I'm going to jump off of Goodsport's bandwagon, and say that if the team ends up with a stadium in Santa Clara, they change their name to the Santa Clara Earthquakes. The city of San Jose has shown that they don't want the recognition associated with a major league sports team.
Yeah, San Jose sure is making it hard.... I mean there's so much history in the San Jose Earthquakes name. But at the same time, San Jose hasn't given any indication that they care. So sad really.... But what about doing the NY/NJ thing and just dropping the city? Just call ourselves the Earthquakes? I mean, that's what I plan on doing from now on anyway.
Hell, they can be the Mountain View Earthquakes for all I care! I just want my team somewhere in the Bay Area. Did anyone see Councilmember Cortese interviewd on Channel 2 this morning? I did not get to see all of it but it sounded to me that the city was sympathetic but impotent in regards to the Quakes.
Santa Clara is our last hope? But as far as name Bay Area Earthquakes would be my vote. If it turns out that the Quakes end up being an expansion team in 07.
Santa Clara deserves the name recognition - but that may not fly with MLS as far as metro-area recognition. My guess/suggestion would be "Silicon Valley Earthquakes" with Santa Clara getting the name recognition on the stadium location.
This was my first thought, too. But I can't imagine how would it be possible singing "Go-o-o-, Si-Li-Con-Val-Ley" Although: "You never beat Pat Onstad" also didn't seemed to be too good, at first.
Oh! You just made me so sad I could cry.... Remember when the guys sang the Ohhhhh San Jose song after winning the Championship? Things just won't be the same....
Now we can start singing: "**** San Jose, **** San Jose, **** San Jose ... Go Quakes! San-ta Cla-ra Earth-QUAKES!!! Ron Gon-za-les, you SUCK!"
I believe Bozo sucks. But the thing to remember is that he's not the only one who is making this decision. He's also not the only one who made the garbage decision.... I don't want to get all political, but that is the fact of the matter. Things get voted on or down by more than just one man.... Still, he's a Bozo.
I honestly don't get your position here. The deal fell through because the Sharks management couldn't get the city to come up with a subsidy that would make the deal work for them. You have stated many times that you are against a subsidy to the Quakes. You're position won the day. I'm no fan of Gonzales but what is it that you think he could have done short of a subsidy to make a deal work?
I heard the bad news on KCBS this morning, totally sucks. I can't beleave they whold let the whole thing fall apart. But waitaminit, is this Santa Clara thing even an option or are we just p**ing in the wind??
Um.... You didn't get my post at all. Maybe you should go back and re-read it. I'm not asking him or anyone else to do anything. But if you want to place blame, he's not alone. Also, I never said anything about being against a subsidy for the Quakes. You are also not understanding my position on that. But I'm not going to go into it again because this isn't about me.
No this isn't about you but you ranted and raved all last week about how the city shouldn't spend taxpayers money to subsidize rich businessmen. Well they won't be. You should be very happy.
So far just p**ing the wind as far as I can tell. When Santa Clara was approached before by AEG, they passed on a deal that was less generous that what SVSE was looking for in San Jose.
You are misrepresenting or misunderstanding what I was saying. But again (and for the last time), I will not get into it again because this isn't about me.
If I am misrepresenting you it is not intentional. Represent yourself as what I express is what I took from your posts last week.
