I just had the most random incident.. My dad calls me from Zurich airport and says that Thierry Henry is checking in behind him on the Emirates flight to Dubai...Next thing I hear on the phone is "Allo?" I was in shock. Thierry was on the phone and I was embarrasingly at a loss for words... I managed to put a few sentences together about how the summer break was going and he said that he was working on getting full fitness back....Wished him the best of luck and that was about it. I decided to make sure I am at the airport in Dubai to meet him but my dad just told me that he is only in transit and is apparently said that he is on the way to an exhibition match. My dad didn't ask where..Anyone know about this match? RICK? Riaz
DAMN!!! I'm impressed with the fact that you were able to put some sentences together on the spot like that! Great story!
Well, I have to confess! Some of my friends and I have a little Sunday get together and we needed another player, so I called up my bud Thierry and you know the rest. He was traveling East to get West as a cover-up. So, anyone want to join us this Sunday?
And you didn't ask how he's getting on as a father, and did he enjoy being in a film with Spike Lee, and what's he gonna do when he beats Ian Wrights record ?
I figured you found another striker when you didn't return my calls, but c'mon, it's off-season so I've gotta be more match-fit and in better form than him!
Great responses guys...My dad just got in and said that they (20 escorts) rushed him off the plane before letting others off...My guess is that he is actually here in Dubai to buy property or something and didn't want anyone to let on to the fact that he is here to avoid hype.. I will find out tomorrow...its a small town!
Oh my gosh!!! I was nervous and giggly just reading your post! I cannot imagine what I would do. Yes I know exactly what I would do. I would be giggling like a school girl. :0
Hey Riaz, long time no hear from, hope your well. As far as I know there are no match's planned. He is back for Monday to start pre-season training. Probably is there to buy on one of the Palm Islands..........
The secrets out. He is in Dubai to "address a group of select Media" according to the morning papers...Will pass on more details as I get them..
Didn't think of that - would make sense though...... Amusing actually, I have been so determined to call it Ashburton Grove and forget about the Emirates bit that it completly went out of my head they were anything to do with it!!!
It will be tough to get emirates out of my head...my autograph is on and Emirates sheet of paper...oh well..
Still the coolest thing ever rs124-so very excited for you! I am with Ash though-would only be able to giggle and smile and tell him how much I love him!
Henry committed to stay on at Highbury By Alaric Gomes, Staff Reporter Dubai : French striker Thierry Henry has committed his future to Premiership giants Arsenal. "I do not see any reason why I should not be at Arsenal. I know there won't be many who will agree with me, but the English League is the most attractive competition today," Henry remarked while speaking to media at the new Emirates Aviation College yesterday. Despite being in Dubai on a private visit, the 1998 World Cup-winning French star made time to spend time with the media. "I think there is a lot of speculation in the media. But I am not going anywhere at the moment," Henry said in reply to a query regarding his reported move to an Italian club. Henry was one of the major success stories at Highbury after the Arsene Wenger-led team demolished all opposition to win the Premiership in 2004. However, with constant injuries plaguing him this year, Henry was not so dominant a figure he was last year as his team finished second behind Chelsea. "Abramovich has arrived and changed a lot of things in a good way for Chelsea. We've had Manchester United before that and we too have had our share of domination," Henry noted. Besides the moneypower, the Russian tycoon has managed to assemble one of the best outfits in world club soccer. "That's the beauty at Chelsea. They are a great team. It was just a matter of two bad months and that was enough... we never saw Chelsea again," Henry recollected. But Henry, who turns 28 on August 17, promised a better competition for the title next year. "We are going to try and challenge for the title. And you can be sure we won't be the only ones. There's going to be Chelsea and Liverpool as well. After winning the European Champions League, Liverpool cannot afford to end the way they did last year. For sure, we have a much better competition for the title next year," Henry remarked. Having spent six seasons at Highbury, Henry still feels the best is yet to come still. "I don't set any personal goals for myself. I just like to play the game. There are some people who do set targets for themselves, but I am not one of them. I just like to go with the flow and enjoy what I am doing on the ground," Henry stated. But definitely one thing that keeps pushing him towards higher goals is his thirst for excellence. "I have been taught by my dad to never be satisfied with myself. That keeps me always trying to reach to be better in what I do," Henry disclosed. "I keep my focus. A player, however great he may be, is always judged by the way he has played his last match. I always try to be consistent on the ground." With the 2004-05 season firmly behind them, Henry is certain Arsenal will fire off when the new season commences this summer. "If you look at all the past champions, they would have lost three to four games," he pointed out. "But even if you lose, we have to learn to accept it and then come back stronger," Henry smiled. "We have a fantastic tea m spirit at Arsenal and it won't be long before we are back to where we belonged."
