Hello San Jose! I'm a 15-year old soccer fan from Austria (a small country in Europe). I registered here because San Jose Earthquake is the american team I like best... Have a look at the official home page of my favourite Club: SK Sturm Graz www.sksturm.at or at my discussion board www.sturmboard.net
We're taking good care of Arnold Schwarzenegger for you here in the states by the way. I know he's a big soccer fan but I'm not sure if he follows MLS at all. What was that team in Austria that has a stadium named after him? Oh.. You'll have to learn to hate us LA Galaxy fans if you're are going to be a true Earthquakes supporter. I'll understand.
Great. I'll go check out your links. Welcome to Big Soccer. I hope you get a chance to visit the states and see the Earthquakes at the Galaxy's brand new stadium someday. Perhaps they'll get a new one too before you turn 50!
I didn't know that Arnold was a big soccer fan. Do you have any link that mentions the fact? And welcome to BS, Schwarzweiss!
Thanx @all! There's another link: www.brigatagraz.com This is a fan-club of my team... Please check out that movie and then tell me: Is your way of supporting your club very different to us?
I got that from someone word of mouth so I can't say if it's a solid truth or not. Perhaps Schwarzweiss knows something.
I also don't know wether Arnie is a soccer fan or not, I only know that he really enjoyed to have his name in a soccer stadium...
I found a lot on him and soccer. For one, he was pushed by his dad to be a player but his brother was always better, I'll post more shortly. From a bio: "Gustav would also keep an eye on their school grades, because he was aware that homework would always take a backseat because of their extreme interest in sports which he had himself encouraged. Arnold’s brother, Meinhard, was a very talented soccer player at school. Gustav was very impressed and felt very proud of him whenever he won a trophy for playing exceptionally well, and he never let Arnold forget that Meinhard was better at soccer than him. In one of his more benevolent moods, he indicated to Arnold that he would like him to be a star soccer player like his brother. Arnold did his best to please his father and became a very good soccer player at school. Yet for Gustav, Meinhard remained a far better player." "Arnold Schwarzenegger was born as the son of a policeman in Graz. Because he wanted to get into the local soccer team, he started to workout. Already at this time was his destiny to obtain a perfect body and muscles."
Right. Training and trying to become a player when you are young doesn't always mean you'll be a big fan when you grow up. We know that all too well here in the states.
He does include it at his youth fitness camps but that's as much as I know of what his connection with soccer in the USA is.
wolves You know a lot more than me about Arnie. Well, he actually comes from Thal, which is a small town near Graz. It only has got a few 100 inhabitants... But Thal is in the city zone of Graz, so Arnie is from Graz. If you wanna know, there are some details about my club. Year of foundation: 1909 Austrian Champions: 2 times (1997/98 and 1998/99) Club colours: Black and White Player with the most games: Andi Pichler (410 games) Player with the most goals: Ivica Vastic (135 goals) Champion's league qualifications: 3 times a row. Stadium: Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium (capacity: 15.436, all-seater) Homepage: www.sksturm.at E-mail: office@sksturm.at
This is exactely the type of support that the SJ Ultras' are trying to establish. (See the movie). Welcome to BS. The 'Quakes are a great team to support (most of the time), but we have this unheard of guy named Dunavon that wears #10.
Gruss Gott and Welcome! Austria is one of my favorite countries. Been there twice and really liked it.
Wolves_67 In Austria this was the last year where two clubs are going to Champion's League qualification. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get into there, instead our city rival GAK did... :-( But we've been to CL 3 times, our opposites in 3 years CL were: Manchester United Real Madrid Spartak Moscow Inter Milan Glasgow Rangers AS Monaco Olympique Marseille Galatasary Istanbul Croatia Zagreb Panathinaikos Athens Valencia CF @Albany_58 Thanks! Have you also been to Graz?
I feel for you guys... This is the last year we have to put up with one spot. Country Ranking for 2004/2005 CL: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=51853 - Switzerland gains a CL spot. - Israel gains a CL spot - Russia loses a CL spot. - Austria loses a CL spot.
Hallo und willkommen! You have picked the right team to support, congratulations. Stop by and post any time.
Hey welcome to BS! Hopefully you can see the Quakes play sometime here in the U.S. As Beerking said, you've picked the right team to support!!
