Just learned of this. I'm hoping some SoB's can make a showing. Jack McInerney and Nick Zimmerman will be on loan w/ the City Islanders as they face FC Energy Drink for a berth in the QUARTERFINALS of the US Open Cup. This is the team that eliminated the U from the Open Cup. This is the team that we love to taunt with "15 years... no cups". This is big. It's a home match for the City Islanders And it's only 10 bucks. Come on Islanders!!! http://www.cityislanders.com/driver.aspx?topic=2010 News#OpenCup3 Tuesday June 29, 2010 US OPEN CUP 3rd ROUND! Harrisburg City Islanders vs. New York Red Bulls Skyline Sports Complex City Island, Downtown Harrisburg
I just read that despite being loaned to the Islanders Zimmerman and Jack Mac are in fact not playing against Red Bulls.
Yeah, it is a bummer. The loan was approved and Harrisburg sent out an official press release only to have extenuating circumstances keep McInerney and Zimmerman from playing tonight. There is still and outside shot at it happening but for all intentions it is dead in the water. Still is an affordable way to watch some soccer and give the Red Bulls a hard time! Only player who will play that has true Union connections would be J.T. Noone. He will have a major role for Harrisburg for sure as they try and knock off New York.
I don't think Zimmerman and McInerney can play for the Islanders in the Cup, they are both already Cup-tied, having both appeared in the Union v. PCNJ play-in game.
Cup tied only counts in actual Open Cup round matches not the play in games. Who knows what the real answer is. I am bummed cause I was looking forward to seeing McInerney play and I know Nick was excited to play the Red Bulls. I do understand the Red Bulls will have a pretty good number of supporters at the match so any Sons of Ben would be appreciated.
Guess you don't go to the Philly OT forum much... https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1469781
