I think you have always started with a weak trainer, I did in Oct. 04 when I started.

    yes. you do/did.

The license thing is still around.

I was able to buy 10 trainees (def) hire a passable trainer and buy a couple of solid IMs and a Solid/Solid Winger/IM to boost my midfield.

I know those were splurges, but I could not help myself. I'm in Trinidad - so the chances of promotion are actually quite good.

You do start with a weak trainer, but the very first piece advice I got when starting out was to hire a new coach. I upgraded to a passable training / wretched leadership (the leadership simply isn't worth the money at the newb level) in the first week of having a team and I want to say it cost me about $200,000. My trainees are doing great just a few seasons in.

Anyone have ideas about how much money is really required to make a serial promotion bid over the course of a few seasons? I have some good trainees coming up now, but I could always do another sell off or two before making a real run. How big of a stadium is required? I have more seats than I'll ever sell in VI, so I imagine it could wait until I promote a couple times again. I'm sitting on about 16 million right now. I could probably build that up another 6 or 7 by the end of the season by selling off the current group. My strategy right now is to train up only U.S. players so that I keep wages under control later. I remember years ago the conventional wisdom was that excellent coaches weren't worth the money. Is that still the case?

When I was playing way back when and made it up to IV, I didn't horde loads of cash. But that's because I was training PM so once I had enough for a solid keeper I bought one young, and then bought up quality at forward and made a push.

Yeah, I've been up to IV before with essentially the same strategy. I would like to get up to II or III.

I didn't have a ton of cash when I made it to II, I just had some really good trainees with a good set of other guys, and hit a perfect storm of good form and weak divisions

I'm close to the edge. I just can't figure out how to beat the game. I feel like no matter what, I can't get anywhere in this game.

I've been playing less than a year, in Div5 usa right now. Should I just stand pat here and build funds or push for promotion? I feel like I could win my league, but am definitely not ready for Div4.

    Any tips?
